When we heard Apogee changed ownership, I sent a direct email hoping they would consider opening the restaurant to allow families access for breakfast. No response. Three days ago, my daughter celebrated her 21st birthday. We were so excited to try breakfast there after waiting for years. Yesterday, was the big day. We saw 2 waitresses and a handful of patrons. We finally made eye contact with a waitress and asked if we "seat ourselves" and she nodded. She came over and asked for ID. As my daughter reached for it, she asked "is that a vertical?" It was, since they mail the new license and it takes time to arrive. She then told us she couldn't serve us. We were there for breakfast. We weren't ordering drinks, but she said it was "company policy." I am a small business owner and a strong supporter of other small business owners. Apogee is one of very few breakfast spots in Fairwood and local families could benefit from having a no-fuss breakfast spot that isn't fast food. Maybe the new owner doesn't need the patronage. Perhaps the small staff can only handle a few customers at a time. I don't know why they were so willing to let our money walk out the door, but it ended up being great for us. We spent our $75 at New Local in Kent where our waitress was bubbly and fun. The food was amazing, we ended up having drinks from their tantalizing menu and Santa was there to raise money and collect toys for local children. After being ignored by the Apogee owner, this recent experience and reading Apogee reviews, we decided that we won't be back. There are many very good restaurants outside of Fairwood that welcome their patrons. It shouldn't be this hard to support a...
Read moreThis is our local joint and at first, I didn't like it. It doesn't match the type of restaurant I normally frequent...or wish to frequent. It's very dive-y and plain American cuisine. But it's turned into one of my favorite places. The food is truly surprising. I mean, it's not going to win any awards and I'm totally fine with that sometimes. But it hits all of the important parts. Chicken that tastes and LOOKS like chicken. Halibut that isn't BREADED TO DEATH.
So in my multiple outings to Apogee I've had the following:
*Broasted Chicken - delicious. It's very good. Huge helping. And it tastes and looks like chicken. Which I mean, when you're getting pieces of chicken with bone-in, it should. *Fish & Chips - this was the biggest surprise because halibut can be so breaded that you can't taste the fish. This was NOT THAT. It was actually flaky and more fish than breading. And I LOVE that. And it wasn't super oily or greasy. It may look like that in the photo, but it had literally just gotten out of the fryer. It was HOT. But it dried to golden flaked goodness. Chicken Strips - This was another HUGE surprise. Truly HAND BREADED. Very very good. NY Strip Salad - Very good. Very straight forward but the steak was cooked properly and it hit the spot I was craving.
Truly A+++++ service as well. We love going there because the wait staff are friendly and just...
Read moreI like this place, but I used to love it.
My mom and I have been celebrating our birthdays jointly here for that last 10 years, we went again last night and I was not impressed. I had made a reservation a week ago but when I got there, it was clear there was no table(s) for the 25 people in our group. When I inquired about where we would be placed it was clear there was panic and confusion until one waitress realized they had sat another party in our reserved area, after awkwardly standing around they were able to mostly accommodate us, we had elderly people in our group so as you can imagine standing around by the door was not pleasant for them, or any of us, really. Mistakes happen and I was okay with the way they moved things around to fix their mistake, but what got me is that one end of the makeshift banquet table was ignored, I found out at the end my grandmother and a few others never received service and that is the reason I'm writing a review. I understand we were a large group, but again, we've been doing this here for 10 years and have never had issues like this.
The vibes are great but they seem either understaffed and/or unorganized with the new ownership and unfortunately I don't think I'll be celebrating my...
