After spending 4 days canoeing and camping down the Namekagon river north of Rice Lake, we were ready for something that wasn't trail food. After settling into our hotel and getting cleaned up, we decided it was time to eat. A quick search of the internet brought us to Adventures.
We walked in and where promptly greeted. The hostess showed us to our table and said our server would be with us shortly. All the staff wore masks based on safety guidelines during this time of La Rona. All of the staff we interacted with was really pleasant, nice, and courteous.
The atmosphere is very Northern Wisconsin... a lakeside cabin theme with canoes, kayaks, mounted fish, etc. We found it very welcoming. It almost has a big chain feel, but it's not a big chain.
After four days of trail food everything on the menu looked amazing. My son had the Lumberjack Burger, I had the Wild Rice Meatloaf, and my friend had the Northstar Bison Burger. We also ordered the cheese curds as an appetizer for the table.
The cheese curds were okay. I mean, you can't go wrong with cheese curds, but the breading seemed like it should be on fish, not cheese. However, it comes with this Chili sauce that is fantastic. The combination of both made for an excellent appetizer. We had ordered these to come out before our meals, but due to a mix up they ended up coming out the same time. Our server was very apologetic and took responsibility for the error. We assured her it was okay, honestly we didn't mind.
As for the main courses. My friend liked his burger, and thought the fries that came with it were about perfect. I'm not sure my son actually chewed his burger or if he unhinged his jaw and swallowed it whole. What I do know is that he kept making "yum" sounds and didn't talk for about 10 minutes. If you know a 17 year old boy, then you understand what that means. I'll admit... after four days of trail food, that meatloaf tasted like the best thing I've ever eaten. It was really good. Wild Rice can be difficult to work with, if it's not cooked properly it's crunchy or chewy. This meatloaf was perfect. The mushroom gravy was excellent as well, and the mashed potatoes were just the way I like them.
For desert my friend and I had cheesecake and my son had the Mexican fried ice cream. Each of us thought the deserts where delicious.
If you're in the area and you're looking for a decent meal, you can't go wrong with Adventures. I know I'll keep it in mind the next time I'm...
Read moreMy bf and myself came here today for the 1st time. He ordered a burger and I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken. When our food came to our table, they gave me chicken fried steak instead chicken fried chicken. I told the waitress right away, she looked at the ticket to ensure she wrote down chicken fries chicken, and she did. The cook made the mistake. So she quickly took my plate back and requested a new dish of what I ordered. Meanwhile, my bf had his burger which he didn't want to eat because my order was messed up. We figured it would be another 10-15 minutes before my food came out.
Not even 5 minutes later the waitress came out with my new plate of food. The first couple bites tasted good, then I got to the middle of the chicken, it wasn't cooked all the way through! I was disgusted. So I waited for the waitress to come back to the table, which wasn't long, she was very prompt and friendly. I told her the chicken is still raw in the middle, and had her look at it. She agreed and asked if I wanted something else off the menu. I just requested the same thing but make it to-go because my bf was pretty much done with his food. The waitress kept apologizing for the issue and I told her she didn't have to, it wasn't her fault. I recieved my food at no charge, however paid for 2 sodas and my boyfriends food. I think our whole meal should have been at no charge because they messed up my food 2 times and all the un necessary waiting we did. Was not a good 1st impression, BUT I do understand...
Read moreNot for me. This was my first time giving Adventures another shot after not returning for more than a year. In general the food is very bland and geared to a midwest pallet that does not include much in the way of seasoning. So, that being said, maybe they know exactly what the local people are wanting since they are highly rated and favored by many. I had the fajitas tonight and it appeared to be closer to steamed peppers and onions with sliced pre-cooked chicken with nothing in the way of seasoning (not even black pepper) or any char from being cooked in a hot pan. It may as well have been a frozen fajita mix that was prepared in a microwave. I let the bartender know that I had hoped for more flavor and she offered to bring me a quesadilla which she assured me was much better and that she would not have recommended the fajitas for someone with my preference, but I declined because I was so disappointed in the dish they had already made. It was a sour experience and I won't be returning, which is unfortunate because there is such a limited restaurant selection...
