Lake Buffet — Restaurant in Rice Lake

-- Made Me sick for 2 days -- I visited at 1:30pm on 04-16-2019 for lunch ($10.59 with a soft drink). I became ill about an hour or so after eating (not your usual feeling of fullness). This lasted for about 48 hours until I felt back to normal. The food overall was uninspiring. Most looked as though it was just slop in a pan. The Pot Stickers were very hard and looked as though they were old & freezer burned. Some items were over cooked & burnt. They only had two offerings of cooked vegetables. The Broccoli Chicken (looked flouresent, rubbery & blah!) and the Green Beans (looked as though they still had remnants of beans in the pan from the night before). The waitstaff took about 15 minutes to notice I needed a refill of soda the first time (even though they sat me right out in the open) and well over 20 minutes the second. I had to get up to get their attention to obtain my third asking only for half a glass and she then filled it all the way. They made little effort to clear used plates even while dropping off my bill about 30 minutes into my stay. The cashier made ZERO attempt to ask how everything was saying absolutely NOTHING... Not just for Me, but even for the couple behind Me. This is the LAST time I ever do business with such uncaring people at this location. They once were fantastic about 20+ years ago and have become careless idiots gradually ever since. They could use a cleaning of the windows inside & out along with cleaning up around the outside. SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN! Stopped here for their buffet. Was greeted by hostess with "How many?". Was then brought to our table where the waitress threw our silverware on the table and aggressively asked "What you want drink?" With that we went up to the buffet where there is a nice selection of items. The first 2 "freshly washed" plates I grabbed had food on them. Many of the food choices are extremely greasy, and oily tasting. After returning to our table we began looking around as we ate and talked. We quickly became mortified. Cobwebs, dust, hundreds of dead flys, and filth. Literally everywhere the eye could see. Then suddenly a spider dropped down from the ceiling onto one of us. They shreiked! It was absolutely appalling and that was the last straw. We immediately paid and left. We will never EVER be dining here again and advise anyone reading this review to avoid this restaurant. If they keep the dining area in this condition, one can only imagine how unsanitary the kitchen and food prep areas are. Please see the pics. we took during our stop. As a tourist, I’m always greatly concerned when I roll up on a rural Chinese food buffet with mixed reviews.

When we arrived about 1145 on a Wednesday, the place was busy with about 60 customers.

The place is very nice on the outside, but a bit in need of maintenance on the inside. Most of the pictures are hung on the wall, crooked, and you can tell that they freshly painted, but did not do any trim work. Tables and booths are worn, but serviceable.

Service was pretty good, about what you would expect in a buffet style restaurant. We were immediately seated. And our drink order was immediately taken and provided. The cleaning of plates was also very prompt.

The buffet was very well stocked, and everything was hot and flavorful. Unlike many other places that I visited. Dishes had a distinct flavor and were spiced appropriately.

Particular favorites this visit with the general’s chicken, and the hot and spicy chicken. A note, was the seafood combination, which was plentiful with shrimp. The dumplings, rice noodles, and lo mein were also quite good.
