I first tried to get into the restaurant. The area outside was filled in with stone. The trouble was that 85% of the stone was loose. I had to be very careful because i'm disabled and use a walker. Going inside, it was very hard to make my way to the bathroom. She had to move two tables for me to make my way through. It's a very small restaurant but the sign on the wall sayd the room could hold 70. So I get to the bathroom and can't get my walker through the door or for that matter even me unless I go in sideways. I get one foot in the women's bathroom and realize the floor is flooded! Upon leaving I told her about these problems and she said she didn't know about the floor in the bathroom being flooded! She said the outside belongs to the property owner and they told them about the stones and he's done nothing about it! Come to think about the outside, there is only one cement ramp and inspite of how well it was made, it was very steep and hard to get down. Back to the bathroom. So I go to the men's bathroom. I have to leave my walker outside. The small door is very hard to open and close but I did it. I brought my bag, cane and reacher in while I was holding the door open. It was a small room but everything was there that you needed. The toilet was filthy, both inside and out and the floor was dirty. The drain in the floor was girgiling. The toilet paper, paper towels and soap were very nice, thank goodness for something. So I make my way out to my table. Some of the customers were gone. Others there were laughing and having a good time. Many customers were Oriental so I figured the food must be good. Then the ceiling lights in one area got brighter which was so much better. Then after a short time it shut down. This kept happening on and off all night. The hard working lady was very nice. She said they do have egg fu young even though it wasn't on the menu. So I ordered shrimp egg fu young. Three huge battered and fried patties came in practically no time. It had lovely big shrimp in it and was great. My sister ordered the beef and vegtables. The beef was so nice and tender. The broccoli needed to be cooked more tender. All food in nice big portions. Nice big pot of rice came first. Big bowel of brown gravy for the egg fu young was also brought to the table. The vegtables egg rolls were very hot. Small bowel of sweet and sour sauce was brought with it. Extra napkins was placed on the table without asking and the chairs were nice and heavy. Reasonably priced for...
Read moreBeware dining in here if you’re Caucasian! I really wish I could leave a better review because the food was so good, unfortunately we had a rather poor experience with our service that can not be overlooked. A simple, quaint, family style, Asian restaurant with beautiful plants that reached the ceiling. There seemed that only one person ran the front of house, which was fine for such a small place. She asked if we were dining in or taking togo and we sat ourselves. She brought us menus but didn’t ask us what we would like to drink and just brought us water. I would have ordered tea my friend would have like a soda but she never asked. I love a wide array of foods and especially like authentic cuisine and culture. She asked if we were ready and I asked for the seafood hot pot. She look right at me and told me I wouldn’t like that and I should order happy family instead. I was so confused. I asked “why wouldn’t I like that?”. She said that it was a more traditional Chinese dish and she didn’t want us to waste food. I have never been spoke to this way. I was like, “ummm it definitely sounds like something I would like, I don’t understand why I can order it.” She said ohhhh, you sure? And I said I think I’m sure. Then my friend asked for the General Tso chicken. She brought us plates a regular forks. I noticed that we were the only Caucasian guests. She was rather nice and talkative to all the other guests who were all using chop sticks. She brought out a container of rice and I asked her for chop sticks which she did finally bring. I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcoming at this point. The chicken came first and it was wonderful. The breading to chicken ratio was spot on and the chicken was tender and juicy, not to mention the sauce was perfect. Then the hot pot came which looked no different than hot pots I have gotten from other restaurants. It had shrimp, fish, tofu, chicken and vegetables. It was very good. Great flavor and the chicken was surprisingly tender. I was hoping their was squid since I saw it on the menu but it did not, and I was surprised it had chicken when it didn’t say it would, but I wasn’t mad at it because the chicken tasted so good. She did refill our water once. Overall, I would eat her again, but ONLY for take out since we were...
Read moreI have eaten here about 30X. I used to work in the area and it ruined Chinese food for me because now I compare every Chinese place to this one, and NONE come even close. This place is delicious. The place is very simple/not fancy. The owners run the place daily. The husband cooks (I want to borrow this guy--seriously) and the wife handles the orders/cleaning/serving. Everything I have had here is delicious and yummy. My favorite dish is Kung Pao Chicken, and this place makes the best Kung Pao Chicken I have had anywhere in the USA. I travel for work and have had Chinese in San Francisco's Chinatown, the east coast, Denver, and various other cities. This little place in Richardson, TX BEAT the hell out of the Chinese food I had in Chinatown and everywhere else. Now that I live by Denton, about 35 miles northwest of this place, I get ANGRY whenever I order Kung Pao Chicken from restaurants around here because NONE of them get it right. And believe me I have had Kung Pao Chicken all over the USA and Korea (never been to China so can't say I had it there) but in any event, the Kung Pao at First Emperor is sweet, spicy, smoky, and with a delicious, addictive dark sauce. The chicken is always fresh and tender and juicy. It really is addictive. I recommend the Kung Pao but also recommend ordering 2-3-4-5 other dishes (either your favorites from elsewhere or just random dishes) so that you can see how delicious all or most dishes are at this place. 5 stars. Oh, and the owners... the cook and the server, work literally 7 days a week, all year long, from morning until night. It would be cool to support them. I have gone once or twice when its been closed and I believe they went to visit family in China. Other than an occasional vacation, these people WORK, and they make some darn good food!! Its the best in DFW; better than the "highly rated" popular "chef" run Asian restaurants. All I can hope is that these people end up being successful enough to open up a place close to my home by Denton/Flower Mound. Maybe that's not a good idea... I will probably...
