Service was great, the place looks great, the quality was great, but portion and "deep dish" was more like "deeply disappointing"
First time purchasing Davanni's, I got a Deep Dish Solo Pizza with the following toppings: Italian Sausage, Bacon, Red Onion, and Jalapenos to go.
Service was actually really great there, my cashier was kind and courteous, albeit it felt pretty scripted. She offered me water while I waited for my order was cooked and gave me a waiting time.
They have a lot of awesome extras there, mayo, spicy mustard, red pepper, parm cheese, + more so that was awesome.
The taste of it was actually pretty delicious. I had Giordanno in the heart of Chicago and this knocks it out of the park. In fact, speaking to native Chicago residents no one even puts Giordanno's in their top 10 for pizzas so I guess it's not hard to beat. Davanni's beat's everyone I know of in terms of flavor. The cheese was delicious, the seasoning makes Dominoes look like they're trying too hard, and the Jalapenos actually packed a punch.
Here's where they lost two stars. It wasn't Deep Dish (or was it?). I get the Solo is basically super tiny, I usually can finish off half a Large not deep dish so when I ordered a Solo I knew it wasn't going to fill me up. So deep dish was the only way to go.
I open the box and I see this pitiful looking pizza, I've never seen anything like it. I did order 4 toppings, but they barely put anything on there. Unless you're gerbiling it took about 2-3 bites to finish off the main part of the slice. ON TOP of that, the pizza was about 1/2 inch thick including the toppings.
That's Deep Dish? I hope they just got my order wrong because deep dish 1/3 inch should be the cheese BY ITSELF, not including crust, toppings, tomato sauce, and what have you.
Overall everything was 10 bucks. I just did pricing on Dominoes and I could have gotten everything as a Medium for 14. Papa Johns (Small) 14. I'd rather just pay the extra 4 just so I could get full and lose a little bit in terms of flavor.
Thanks...
Read moreWe've been living in the area and ordering from Davanni's in Richfield for years. They're one of the few restaurants that delivers in the area. Unfortunately, I just can't bring myself to give them any more of my money. Our orders are very simple, yet they've screwed up the orders the last 10 times or more, usually forgetting an item.
They sent me a coupon to make up for a recent screwup (free lasagna and breadsticks), so I decided to give them one more opportunity. Along with the lasagna, I ordered an additional breadsticks and an Oriental Salad. When the driver arrived, he looked at the order and said "Oops, looks like I forgot to pack the salad, so I'll have to go back and get it."
When the driver returned with the salad, I paid him and told him to let his manager know that we'll no longer be customers because of the repeated screwups on the orders. The driver asked me "what did we screw up tonight?" I had to tell him that the fact that he had to drive back to the store to get the salad he forgot was a screwup, which seemed to confuse him.
And these errors don't just happen on delivery orders.
A couple months back, I went into the store and ordered a pasta and a caesar salad. The cashier asked me what type of salad dressing I wanted on the salad. Dumbfounded, I replied "My assumption is that it comes with caesar dressing?"
Well, I checked the bag when the order was ready, saw the pasta, saw the salad and drove home. Only to find when I unpacked everything that while both items were there, they didn't pack ANY dressing.
I should have stopped supporting their store back...
Read moreDavanni's is a local chain of restaurants here in the Minneapolis St Paul area. Offering a really decent hand tossed crust really good ingredients. And friendly service. As chains go for this metro area this is one of the better ones. My only issue is following directions on the orders to go to which door of the house you want to go to and the closing way too early in the middle of the week at 10:00. I like to stay up a little later than that and sometimes I eat at 11:00 or midnight. But they do have interesting things on their menu for their pizzas such as Gorgonzola and banana peppers. I wouldn't think this was very exotic but it makes for an interesting pizza. Their crust is made from scratch I believe. Their sauce is more than likely made from scratch. both these things make a very good pizza and that's one thing that they are good at is consistent quality pizza. Their hoagies are nothing to complain about either they're always made with quality ingredients and you have a few different choices of bread which is always nice which is very fresh and never disappointing breadwise. I would recommend giving this a shot especially if you're from out of town this is...
