Happy Wok — Restaurant in Richmond Hill

This was the second time I’ve eaten here. I ordered take-out, so I can’t speak to the atmosphere or service. The little boy at the counter looks so sad, but I guess that’s expected for a young kid who has to work all day in his parents’ store. I have to start by saying the first time I ate here it was fine. They won’t win any awards for fine dining, but everything was fresh and tasted good. Last night I ordered the same thing I always do; wonton soup, spring rolls, chicken and broccoli with white rice. But when I got home the chicken was undercooked and nasty. I had it mixed in with the rice so I didn’t notice until I’d eaten two or three pieces. I stopped and took a good look and it was almost raw! I threw the rest away. Everything else was fine. The soup was very good, as were the spring rolls. But last night and today I’ve had an upset stomach and a slight fever and I’m nauseous. All signs of food poisoning. I think because I stopped before I ate too much I only have a mild case. I’ve had full-blown food poisoning before and this was not it. Over all, it’s a pretty good restaurant, but I would check your poultry or seafood before you eat it. I hope this was a one time occurrence and I would go back again, since the first time was fine, but I would check everything before you leave...

ALERT ALERT ALERT!!!!! I went to this Restaurant out of town. I don't see how this place has 4 stars! When I went in I felt like they was rushing me to place my order. Then I placed my order.And gave her my Credit card. She told me that they only take CASH! I thought that was odd! Then, After a payed. I went to go sit down and all the tables was dirty. And they wasn't even busy. After that I was waiting for quite a while for my food. When our food finally came it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. The rice was hard. The chicken that I ordered was cooked too hard. The egg rolls were spoiled. I went and told her that the egg rolls are spoiled and she tried to are you me down about the egg rolls saying that they are already come pre-cooked. And that she doesn't make them herself. She ended up fixing me some more egg rolls but when I looked at the signs that are in there. You can't get your money back or exchange. We've wasted $38 and some change and I was very disappointed in the food. I've been in that store for about an hour and I only seen two people come in there that should have been a flaw to me. But instead I went off of what people were saying in that town. Their food sucks! I will never eat...

I was at the Happy Wok about a month ago and had a terrible experience with the young man taking the orders. As I waited on my food, I checked Google reviews. “Ashley” had posted a review a few months earlier and her experience mirrored mine. When my order was ready, I showed the kid taking the orders the review asked if he had seen it. I told him that he was going to ruin his family’s business if he didn’t change his attitude towards their customers. I then asked to speak to the manager (his mom) and showed her the review, which she said she had seen. She was very kind and thanked me, but I left very frustrated. I’m happy to say that I went back to the restaurant last week and when I walked in, the kid was still running the front. I expected the worse. What a pleasant surprise! The young fellow did a great job and was so pleasant and accommodating! When my food was ready, I told him what a great job he had done! First time I’ve ever seen the kid smile! I also told his mom what a pleasant experience I had. As always, our food was delicious! ...
