Proof is in the pudding! Line was out of the door and I couldn’t wait to grab a bite! anyway story time - DCG was always more than just a place to grab a quick bite. It was an experience. Starting with their iconic location in DC and later following them to Vienna, I’ve always admired their unwavering commitment to flavor, quality, and customer service. So when I learned they opened a location in Richmond, I was thrilled. Finally, my favorite spot was closer than ever, and I could enjoy their unmatched food without a long drive.
From the moment I walked in, the Richmond DCG location made an impression. The interior is stunning—sleek, modern, and absolutely spotless. It’s clear they put thought into creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that elevates the dining experience. The walls have plenty of outlets as well as some fire music - I’m looking to start studying here since the location is so welcoming. The staff was nothing short of amazing. From the cashier to the kitchen team, everyone was friendly, professional, and attentive. They made sure every customer felt welcomed, which is a hallmark of DCG’s brand.
Now, let’s get to the heart of the matter: the food. DCG has always set itself apart with its incredible portions, and this location holds up that tradition. I’d like to argue that DCG is a trendsetter: one of one! I’ve never seen anyone do platters this good or taste this good. I ordered a combo platter with chicken and gyro, and the serving size was massive. True to DCG’s reputation, the platter was overflowing with perfectly cooked meat, fluffy rice, and just the right amount of salad. The real highlight, of course, was the sauce—rich, creamy, and drizzled generously over the dish. Mouth is watering just thinking about it.
The chicken was everything I hoped for: juicy, tender, and bursting with a flavor that only DCG can master. Their spice blend is unmatched, with just the right balance of heat and aroma to keep you coming back for more. The gyro, too, was a showstopper—succulent, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Every bite was an explosion of flavor, and the combination of the meats with their signature white and red sauces was nothing short of magical. It’s safe to say that no one in Richmond can come close to DCG’s level of quality. While some people may try to mention other platter locations - those places simply can’t replicate the rich, bold flavors that DCG brings to the table. DCG knocks everything out of the park - Again, one of one!! I cannot emphasize that enough.
What makes DCG truly special is their ability to create food that satisfies on every level. It’s not just about flavor (though they have that in spades); it’s also about their attention to detail. Their consistency.
DCG has been over the years. Having followed them from DC to Vienna and now Richmond, I can confidently say their standards have never wavered. If anything, they’ve only gotten better. It’s rare for a brand to maintain such a high level of quality as they expand, but DCG does it effortlessly. I had the opportunity to speak to the owners and they were very adamant about the importance of conserving their quality and serving customers the best. Their Richmond location proves that they’re not just keeping up—they’re setting the bar higher. I’ve never seen a quick platter spot look this good and taste this good.
Overall, DCG in Richmond is a game-changer. It brings a level of quality and flavor that no other restaurant in the area can compete with. Whether you’re craving a hearty platter or a perfectly wrapped gyro, this place has you covered. The portions are generous, the food is incredible, and the atmosphere is top-notch. I’ve been a loyal fan for years, and this new location only reinforces why DCG remains my all-time favorite. I’ve gone to every platter spot you can name - I always find myself right back at DCG. If you haven’t tried them yet, do yourself a favor and go. One visit, and you’ll understand why DCG is in a league of its own - one of one. Top two...
Read moreI grew up going to DCG when it was on M Street in DC and followed them when they went to Vienna as well, I am a big fan of them. I recently moved to Richmond so I was pretty happy when I saw a location opened up here too, finally a competitor to Halal Munchies.
Today is the second day of DCG being in business so when I went in there I had very high expectations. The interior is very fancy and clean. When I got in line, I ordered a mixed platter of chicken and gyro. Now I have been going to DCG for many years, and the one thing they are known for is how much meat and sauce they stuff you up with, they barely filled my platter with either, it was mainly just rice so that was very disappointing. Again, I am comparing this to my experience in Vienna so when I said can I get a lot of white sauce I was expecting them to drench my order in it, but they were very conservative in that too.
I brought my coworker with me and he ordered a wrap with both chicken and gyro, when the employee was making the wrap he warmed a pita bread, and then put just chicken and gyro meat on it and was about to wrap it up like it was done. Directly behind them, in the picture from the menu, of the wrap, there is salad & sauce that goes into the wrap. The employee did not even ask to add it or anything so I had to remind him to add the salad & sauce. This was not a huge deal, but to be fair there are two items on the menu so the inability to remember to ask your customer about the salad & sauce was a little concerning.
When it was time to check out the Apple Pay & Tap to pay was not working, again not a big deal they’re new, but a bit inconvenient because I usually Apple Pay everything so had to get my card out.
The price for my combo platter was $13.62, which was a little steep considering Halal Munchies is a few minutes walk from there, give more food, for less money. But I guess DCG is a brand name now, so I did not think much of it.
What was more surprising was my coworkers total for his mixed wrap, being $13.35, (the pita bread is very small, so significantly less food can fit in that) but was only a 27 cent difference.
Taste wise, their chicken was honestly amazing, much better than Halal Munchies too, but their gyro was probably worse than any food truck vendor or any gyro I have ever had in my life (I grew up eating chicken/gyro over rice my whole life). It was cooked properly, but was very hard to chew on and had that lamb smell in it. Again nothing like their Vienna location’s taste on gyro.
Overall: I am a huge fan of DCG, this visit was very disappointing but I believe if they take some tips and better their portion sizes + sauce generosity (like their Vienna location) they would have me come back to try them out again. For now, the chicken alone is not justifiable enough to come back here to try out, especially since their are priced at a premium from their direct competitors (Halal Munchies), and give less food. I am hoping one of my favorite food franchises picks up the ball and fixes what...
Read moreMan… wow. Listen I am the definition of a foodie. I have been cooking for many years and do it as my job. The rating on this place is no joke. Honestly I had never heard of this place and was just searching for a basic chicken tender basket to feed my roasted brain after 2 back to back final exams today and came across this place. It’s not easy to get a 4.9 rating so I figured why not. Soon as I walked in I was smacked in the face by one of the most incredible aromas produced by food that I have smelled in a long time. When you go you will understand what I’m talking about. I was stuck between two choices (the chicken platter and the chicken fries) and the guy behind the counter lead me to the chicken platter. Get ALL THREE sauces. Trust me. He put so much food in the container I wasn’t sure he was gonna be able to close it. I’m not one to leave food uneaten, but I had to save some for later. This dish is so good dude. Look at this masterpiece. So many good flavors and the cucumber salad, lettuce, beans side was so refreshing. Chicken tenders were on the brain and man did I make the right move ditching that idea. Just do yourself a favor and go....
