Love love love this park. So much space to sit and chill and there's also usually a good amount of other people relaxing if it's a nice day. It can get pretty busy but that's what I love about parks is seeing everyone come together :) it's so cute. Also a coffee shop in the middle of it which sells pastries, chai, and lavender lemonade which can be very refreshing. They also have seating areas outside of it and on top of the coffee shop which are really nice! Though the free wifi is a LIE because it never lets you connect. I feel like during the warmer months this place always has something going on in it too which makes it even better. there used to be a drag show that came at the end of the month but I don't know what happened to them and I miss them. Though there is never parking and there are sometimes homeless people in the park that sometimes ask for money but in my experience they're always pretty nice about it when you don't have money and are just chilling most...
Read moreDisappointed in the progress being made at Monroe Park. It seems like they put this huge fence around the park to keep out students and the homeless but have been making no progress. One can only assume this was a sad attempt to take away this social gathering place from the homeless population of Richmond, as well as provide an inconvenience for the students trying to get to and from the Business and Engineering schools. This makes both the city and VCU look badly (although VCU does not own the park, they help support and maintain it). To the individuals in charge of the park's restoration - please do not shut down the park until you are ready to begin the...
Read moreI grew up here, in the city...and I am so glad that they have reopened this park. It's pretty shiny and new, now. I used to love coming here for years to meet up with friends or read under one of the gigantic old trees. Now, there is newer seating and a cool ping pong table. I guess pre-pandemic the coffee shop near the fountain was open for business. The downside is that there are some pretty judgmental people in this sparkly new green oasis. I have seen people be pretty rude to others who "have less". I may be especially sensitive since that was me not so long ago. Let's make sure that all of the people in our city and community feel welcome. This space is not for certain people... it's here for everyone. P.S. The new tables and chairs are really great for lunches and...
