Addendum: Visited for a second time and greatly disappointed. Rating went from 5 stars down to 3. Sat in the dining room this visit. The floor was covered in food. Our table was filthy. Windows covered in spider webs. It was extremely loud for a lunch crowd and had a difficult time conversing. The Capese that I raved about before and one of the reasons I returned was mediocre this go around. It lacked in flavor and the mozzarella was watery and limp. Food took a long time to come out and we were disappointed in the taste, and took even longer for our check. What a difference a few months made in my experiences.
Beautiful building and quaint street. Not sure about parking, as I walked here from downtown. The front porch steps are little sketchy, so be careful when stepping on these. They have seating inside and outside on a patio. It was the most peaceful and relaxing setting on the patio. Staff was extremely pleasant, greeted use immediately, and kept our tables clear. Took a while to get the check and then change, but that was the only time we waited for service.
The side salad was only romaine and spinach, with a lemon vinaigrette. The dressing had such flavor, you actually didn't need any toppings to complete the salad. I loved the dressing. I enjoyed every bite. I had the chicken tenders with honey mustard. The chicken tenders were breaded with such a light, flaky crust. Not greasy. Tender meat. The best tenders I've had and although listed as an appetizer, they were plenty for a meal. We also had the Caprese appetizer and the Greek salad. The Greek salad was full of flavor, toppings, delicious feta, and crisp lettuce. So many flavors that blended well together and all tied in with the best dressing. The Caprese was the best I've ever had. The BEST! The mozzarella was fresh, spongy, and flavorful. I liked the addition of the almonds. The tomatoes tasted fresh as if picked that morning. And the balsamic drizzle had a rich, intense flavor, none like I've ever tasted. The pesto was simple and not overwhelming and married the entire dish together. I would return to this pub just to order the...
Read moreI guess this was part of the tour, but you can enter from 1 side, go up the stairs to the private dining room, then down some stairs to the more and whatnot. Anyhow it's confusing because it looks like an old house. Actually if I'm not mistaken someone told me it was an old house. Here for a semi private large party dinner of 18+ we felt like we got our own part of the house.
The bar upstairs carries a half dozen craft beers, full liquor selection and room for a few dozen people. The half up stairs room could hold 2 parties of 10, but the pocket doors keep free movement limited. This is why we decided to split the tables up. With a group this large you are not going to get the service you would at a regular restaurant. We overwhelmed our bartender with some 50 drinks at all times.
The gal who brought the food only brought the food and no one filled our water. The menu is simple, but good. I found the salad boring, but the chicken parm was interesting. Well made pasta, thick hearty sauce and 3 large chicken pieces filleted well.
This place seems as old as Patrick Henry himself with the seemingly original wood floors, and steps the bathrooms aren't clearly marked either. On this hot summer night I found the read outdoor patio courtyard pleasant to vape with other patrons. It's almost a garden back there. Post dinner drinks had me sitting on the porch missing my pipe before we hightailed it to start out bar crawl. It's an interesting place to visit and I can see its appeal for locals to entertain guests, but not a place to come...
Read moreUpdate** The manager reached out to us and apologized. He also offered us a meal on the house. The apology was greatly appreciated and it is nice to know that management will go out of their way to fix any issues brought to their attention.
Terrible service and rude wait staff at the restaurant. The waitress was agitated that there were multiple individuals asking the same question, which was if dogs were allowed on the patio. After giving us vague directions on where to enter from we were left wondering if we had to go in and order. My boyfriend went in to grab a couple of menus and ask if we were to order inside. Another woman also had the same question and went in after him. The waitress had a huge attitude and said something to effect of "I already told you to wait outside". My boyfriend said that she did not make that clear because other people were also sitting around asking about service. Instead of just apologizing or getting the manager she kept escalating the situation until she ended the conversation with "I wont serve you, how about that!" We left without speaking to any managment. It's unfortunate because the basement bar has great bartenders. Patio seating has always been lousy. It's like they completely forget about you out there. If you want good service you have to sit inside the restaurant or the basement bar. The food is ok for the price but I wont be going back because I dont tolerate...
