We dined at Stock for a friendās birthday last night and it was great.
We sat at 8:15 and the restaurant was pretty empty by then, which was totally fine with us.
The atmosphere is definitely very cool. Not sure how successful the concept will be for the furniture aspect in Richmond, but it is definitely a fun spot for something different. The lighting and music were perfect - not too bright, not too loud or quiet.
The service was excellent (Joshua) and it was great to see a friend (Ben G.) happened to be cheffing for us, which was an unexpected surprise :) The food was excellent. Most of the party got the trout and loved it. I got the schnitzel and it was great as well. The fried Gouda was my favorite.
The only reason I removed 1 star was the cocktail menu. In comparison to the caliber of the food and atmosphere, the cocktail menu was very much lacking. I looked at it ahead of time and determined I would be saving the $14 for a cocktail, because there wasnāt anything unique or interesting enough to be worth the price for me. Iām not opposed to paying that for a nice cocktail, but the bar menu could definitely be stepped up to compare to the food.
Overall it was a great experience. The free clutch made from furniture material samples for the birthday guest is a really nice and creative touch!
And I wanted to reiterate how fantastic Joshua was. His timing was absolutely perfect, he commanded the attention of the table and described the courses extremely well and answered any questions we had with ease. As a lifer in the service industry, I donāt know if I couldāve asked for anything better ā¤ļø and I hope the whole table tipped him accordingly and that he makes all the money for his...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur family of four enjoyed a perfect evening dining al fresco at Stock Bistro and Bar in Manchester's beautifully restored railroad freight terminal. This innovative concept marries a Nordic-inspired restaurant with the Txtur furniture showroom, creating a uniquely immersive dining experience.
We started with three exceptional appetizers: the BlomkƄlsuppe (cauliflower and Havarti soup) was velvety and aromatic, the shrimp toast disappeared within minutes, and the plum salad provided a refreshing counterpoint. The non-alcoholic cocktail selection impressed us all, particularly the lingonberry-infused options that perfectly complemented our meal.
For mains, we enjoyed the plankstek (American Wagyu strip) which arrived sizzling on a cedar plank, cooked to perfection with a beautifully charred exterior and rose center. The trout was equally impressive with crisp skin and delicate, buttery flesh beneath.
Chef Kevin Coleman's Nordic-inspired menu balances authentic Scandinavian techniques with seasonal Virginia ingredients. Service throughout was attentive and warm, enhancing our dining experience. The patio setting was ideal for our family dinner, though the furniture showroom offers a fascinating alternative dining space.
My only minor quibble was a slight mothball scent inside, likely from the dual-purpose nature of the space - but this clever retail-dining hybrid concept actually adds character to an already memorable experience. We'll certainly return to this...
Read moreMy wife and I had reservations for date night. We were seated right away in the Showroom at a beautiful custom table with very nice, comfortable chairs. All the staff were super helpful and nice. Joshua was our server, and he is amazing! David kept stopping by as well to check on us and refill our drinks. It was a joy to talk with them both. The cocktails were great. My wife had the Pink Passerby, and I had the RVA Kaffepunch. Both were very tasty and packed a good punch. For our starter, we had the Housemade Bread and Butter. It was delicious! For our mains, we had the Smoke in Chimneys Trout and the Chicken. My trout was crispy and flavorful, some of the best I have ever had! The Chicken took my wife back to when her grandma would cook the holiday meals. It was super moist and seasoned perfectly. The cranberry sauce and stuffing were on another level. For dessert, we both ordered the Eplekake. A nicely warmed apple cake with brandied caramel and oat streusel that gave it a lovely crunch. So, so good! A side note, one Eplekake is plenty for two people. Every dish was on an elevated level with layers of flavor. Another nice thing is that they have their own parking lot, so you don't have to find parking on the street or pay for parking. We had a great time, and we will definitely be back! We are excited to try the Hanger Steak and FÄrikÄl. Recommend...
