We have purchased decorated petit fours and decorated cookies for several years for Easter and Xmas parties. This year we were told they did not have staff to offer those particular items any longer. So we opted for Xmas cookies from New York which were dry, tasteless except for one specific cookie. My grandchildren even turn them down. I still have 2 dozen that no one wants. We spent almost $300 on an Xmas order plus some additional items we purchased on Xmas Eve during pickup of my order. The biscuit/rolls we purchased that afternoon were dry/stale tasting so people just opted to eat ham and tenderloin without a roll. They were also drastically different shapes ... some huge, some tiny. The $3 cupcakes were tiny and were hard/dry with little plastic Xmas themed rings put on top. I can't give those away either. The grandkids take one bite then just pull off the plastic rings to play with. We have decided to make strata and bread pudding with all the leftover biscuits/rolls. The Sally Lunn rolls were obviously fresh when picked up at 1 pm on Xmas Eve, but ended up being very damp and squished when removed from the bags for our 5 pm party. The bags were inflated like balloons and actually had tiny drops of water moisture inside them like they had been packed when hot. The very low temperature outside in my car could have been an issue too? However, the Sally Lunn rolls tasted excellent. The chocolate covered cupcakes were excellent. The radio bars were excellent. The chocolate wrapped items actually stay fresh for days and we are still enjoying them. The 5 meltaway coffee cakes we gave to each family for Xmas morning were excellent. I will definitely continue shopping there because I am hoping that fulfilling the volume of Xmas orders and problems with staffing (which were described to me in great detail when I first placed my Xmas order) are to blame for the stale dry items. I am usually always extremely satisfied with their pastries especially their chocolate covered donuts and cupcakes.

Well I'm giving a 2 and not a 1 just because I've enjoyed their products in the past and they made our wedding cake in 1996, but I hear ownership has changed since then, so they probably don't even deserve the three. The complaint I have today is that I was drawn in by the giant sign that says fresh strawberry pies and cakes. Parking is very difficult here anyway, but more difficult today because construction was going on in the front so I had to park across the 4 Lane busy street. I came in to get a fresh strawberry cake or pie and they had neither because they said they didn't have any fresh strawberries. Don't know how difficult it is to make a trip to one of the 10 grocery stores within a mile, but I guess it was too much effort. But not more effort than I put forth in trying to get into the shop to buy one of the advertised cakes or pies. Not happy and with all of the other bakeries to go to that are phenomenal there's no reason to return, especially when parking and access is so difficult on a regular basis. And at $25 a cake besides no discount offered for the lack of strawberries, which is the main draw of the cake, I think I'd pass anyway, but who would know, because there was nothing to pass on. instead of excuses, if they ever encounter someone like me who's greatly disappointed after much effort to come into the shop, maybe they should offer them a cookie at least if not offering a discount.

Is it wrong that I'm writing this mid chocolate iced glazed donut? I drove by, doubled around and was glad I did! I got a pecan brownie, prune Danish, the donut and a cup of coffee. The coffee could have been hotter but it's 3:00 p.m. it was spot-on. The brownie was flavorful. It was very soft, but not undercooked. The donut was puffy and awesome with a lot of chocolate on top. It was the Cadillac of chocolate glazed RVA donuts. The service was awesome, the cakes look phenomenal and I will be back.

I ordered my wedding cake from here because of the previous reviews and how long the Bakery has been in establishment. I showed the clerk the picture of exactly which cake I wanted from previous pictures the had posted just needed the different colors. I requested to have the cake delivered to my reception location between 1-2pm. Not only did the cake arrive 2 hours early, it was left out in the clear open air on a table in the reception room, no covering at all!(This during a year where Covid is still slightly prevalent ) This cake looked NOTHING LIKE what I showed them in one of there previous posted pictures! It looked like the layers had dropped!! The floral decorations were less than par! I also ordered petit For’s which were obviously pre frozen because they all stuck to the paper they were on when my guest began to eat them. Very disappointed with the performance and presentation of my request. The taste of the cake was good but did not taste as good as the samples.. Called the bakery on the next business day but the customer service was very condescending and could have cared less.. For all the money I spent at this establishment, the treatment I received was terrible. Would never recommend this...
