I stopped into Bulldog Burger far too late in the evening to be sensible. Normally I do not go to a restaurant less than two hours before close. I chose this restaurant because the website menu stated they offered a gluten free bun, & the place is descended from Harvey's in Starkville so I immediately had my expectations raised.
When I got there I asked if the GF buns were in stock before getting seated, a normal habit when I know I'm only there for a specialty item. They were & I was seated immediately. Because it was an hour before close, there were few customers & the employees were all engaged in closing activities.
I ordered the Bryant (I like Southwestern style burgers & this was the closest thing) with no onion straws & the GF Bun. The printed menu stated that it was an Udi brand bun. When asking about the side, my server Judith immediately let me know that the fries were cooked in a common fryer with breaded goods. This is one of the rare times I have NOT had to explain to anyone the concept of cross-contamination & I was extremely pleased. I was also extremely disappointed because hot restaurant fries are a rarity for me. I had to order the house salad.
My meal came quickly & exceeded my expectations. One reason I usually don't go out in the last hour of a restaurant's operation is that one typically gets the dregs of the supper rush. (And the staff are tired!) This was not the case. The salad was fresh & crisp, well balanced & tasty. It could have used some goat cheese or other white cheese. Initially I had blue cheese dressing but it was runny & had a very strong mayonnaise flavor so I asked Judith for the balsamic vinaigrette instead. The burger was fantastic. It was a little wet but not a dealbreaker, & the bun was toasted on the face. Said bun held together very well until the last bite. However this burger could have benefited from a couple of big, crisp lettuce leaves to add some texture.
Overall an excellent meal & fantastic friendly staff but I'm taking a star off for the lack of fries. They have a printed GF menu with fries on it, so excellent job from Judith on letting me know that was incorrect. I strongly advise Bulldog Burger to get a dedicated canola (not peanut!) fryer for non-breaded items. Those of us who need to be GF (believe me it isn't a choice) count things like that as a huge draw.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me start by saying this is not your average burger joint! The hostess was super friendly and welcomed us to the restaurant then seated us quickly. We sat in the bar area because we wanted to watch the football game and the environment of the bar area was very clean and welcoming. Our bartender and server was Bailey. When I tell you he is one of the best bartenders I've ever interacted with... I mean it!šÆ He made my Long Island Ice Tea to pure perfection! It was garnished with blueberries, an orange slice and a lemon slice. He was very knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested that we try the Truffle Tator Tots with our Philly Egg rolls appetizer. š² OMG they must have been prepared by God's hands himself... they were absolutely amazing! He was very busy making handcrafted drinks at the bar but he still made us feel comfortable and checked on us often. So, after watching staff memebers come from the kitchen with tray after tray of delicious looking burgers and fries we finally decided what to have as our entrees. Mind you every table was quickly cleared but not before I noticed all the trays were empty a great indication that food was incredible. I appreciated the fact all the waitstaff had on mask and that the served everyone quickly and we went on a pretty busy night. If you prefer to dine outside the have a wonderful patio with comfortable seating. If you are looking for a quick bite, date night, game night, or just great burgers. The Bulldog Burger Company is the place to go! I know your experience will be just as GREAT...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was very disappointed at Bulldog Burger Company tonight..6/25/2021 4:30pm. I completely understand they are a new restaurant opening on the heels of a global pandemic, but some of the issues I faced had zero to do with that and more to do with lack of training! When I walked into the building, there were so many employees (6) just standing behind or leaning on the counter they could barely move, yet not once did any one of them welcome me to their business, nor did they seem interested to even acknowledge my presence! When the other 3 people in my party arrived they were treated the same. My friend made them acknowledge her when she said "we have 4". The reply was simply, "ok; it will be 15-20 minutes." Mind you, there were maybe 5 tables with people sitting at them and at least as many servers walking around the dining area floor! The knowledge of the wait staff left me with little doubt there was minimal menu training privided. The burger was ok, the salad the same...but the salad dressing was fantastic! Which is not enough to make me want to go back again. Take your own chance and I honestly hope it is better than mine!...
