My husband and I were in Roanoke for a date day that we both were looking forward to. We needed to get away and not be the constant care-takers/caterers to others needs as well as a break studying for a doctorate licensing exam. We ended up walking into this place for food and a drink. I ordered the quesadilla that was listed on the menu (cheese, peppers, beans, corn relish). There was an option to add a protein if you wanted to and had the meat options listed for an additional $4, but I am vegetarian so I didnt order a protein with it. It came out as a chicken quesadilla with none of the peppers, beans, corn as listed on the menu. My husband relayed that Im a vegetarian and I ordered the quesadilla on the menu. It came back with nothing but a tortilla and cheese.
Im not really sure how else I could have explained my order; as it was exactly how it was listed on the menu. Again, there was a section labeled add a protein (to the quesadilla) with listed meat options which I chose none of. I just wanted the listed quesadilla as is. Our waitress could care less about the experience or service and never asked any further clarifying questions if she was confused by the order. We were just stared at. If there had been any communication at all about maybe that not being available or she just put in the wrong thing it would have been perfectly fine. I racked my brain thinking of ways I may have confused her or could have said the order differently. She came to take our orders, returned only when tracked down to let her know what came out was not at all what I ordered, and then to give us the check.
It was clear that no effort would be made beyond the absolute minimum. When you are giving your life everyday for other people and living beings, its even more of a slap in the face when you cant even get a really simple (it was an option as-is on the menu!) meal when you have time to get out of town.
Really disappointed in the wasted money...
Read moreWe used to love this place and before the pandemic, I would have given it 5 stars but it really disappointed this past weekend. We stopped by this past Saturday for eat in and they looked pretty busy but there were empty tables (and not the ones blocked off for Covid). We were seated quickly and then we were ignored for at least 5 minutes while every server in the place walked past us multiple times. In the past you'd be acknowledged almost immediately by a server no matter how busy. I finally asked the server waiting on the table next to us if she was our server, she said no and pointed to another woman and said she was our server, then she just walked off. I used to wait tables for years and this is not how to handle the situation. The server who she said was ours, then walked past us a few times and I swear she ignored me when I smiled and started to say "excuse me" as she walked within 3 feet of me. We were honestly about to walk out when another server showed up with a trio of dips and apologized for the wait. We didn't plan to order the dip trio (maybe only guac) but she took our drink order and we got the ball rolling - service improved at that point. For the food: I'll start with the guac - it was not fresh and was a real disappointment compared to what we've had there in the past. The spicy margarita tasted way different - as if sour mixed was used. In the past, I could request pico instead of slaw for the shrimp tacos but I was told they didn't have pico (its on the menu as a topping for another taco?!?!?). It also seemed like the flour tortillas were not warmed before they were served to us (they were tough) and everything was generally lacking in flavor. My husband and I were both bummed - we have not been eating out much at all this past year and Tuco's had always been one...
Read moreMy self along with three others came in for dinner last evening when it was very busy. We weren’t greeted until another party had left. I guess for too long of a wait and when we were greeted, it was by a older bartender Who seems to be in a rush, She ran past us cleaning up other tables and then screamed across the restaurant for us to take a seat, when asked which table she rolled her eyes and said the only one available. She was very rude and short, and we were given a waitress who was very new. It took her about 10 minutes to put our drinks in and when she did, they were wrong. It took her about five minutes to put our appetizer in and when she did, it was wrong. Our table was walked by countless times without anyone checking on us or asking how our experience was , when the check finally came as expected. A lot of the items on our receipts were wrong. It was obvious that our waitress was new. She told us it was her first day so the question we were asking was who was her trainer because no one helped her. No one asked any questions and by the end of the experience two hours later, it was a general consensus, and none of us would be returning. What, we expected to be a quick dinner turned into us being in the restaurant until 9 o’clock. When we Tried to clarify our frustrations to the bartender who greeted us initially we were told she wasn’t talking to us. She was talking to the waitress. I would just say save your money and find one of the other countless Mexican restaurants in Roanoke. The only thing that stands out about Tucos are the margaritas service was horrible. The food was OK and it’s just not worth it. If maybe the management was a little more friendly, actually cared about the tables instead of just trying to get everyone in and out maybe everyone would’ve had a better...
