Cheap Charlie's — Restaurant in Rochester

I’ll start with the short points. The food is not good, not always fresh, and the prices are average not cheap. Not worth it,

Being a new mom I started to go out for breakfast a lot so I’ve been all over town. They have such a good review I thought they must be great, WRONG! Okay so let’s start with the positive…the staff was super friendly…. I’ve been here 3 times. The first time was in 2016 and the food was awesome! It was breakfast and I believe I got pancakes and eggs.

So when I moved back to town in 2018 I ordered their biscuits and gravy to go. Only to be so disgusted by how cold and tough they were that I threw them out and got breakfast from somewhere else. I didn’t complain because I thought maybe they were just having an off day.

Fast forward to 2022 and I always believe in second chances decided to go in. I was the only one there sat down and the guy served me coffee right away. I ordered country fried steak with eggs and potatoes. The eggs and maybe the potatoes were the only things on the plate that was freshly made. I know this because it took him 4 min to make and I heard the microwave being turned on, and it wasn’t as hot as it would have been made fresh. Besides you can usually taste the difference between fresh and heated up. Over all I will not be going back and suggest that until they start to make the food fresh that you should not waste your money. It’s Rochester there are plenty of other places that have good prices for great food. Hy-vee., Dennys, Perkins, brothers bar and grill, and all of the coffee shops are all the places I’ve gone to and would...

Haven't been to Cheap Charlie's in about 6 months due to finding a hair baked into my omelette, which is already a little sketchy... We went to go back today and they were already closed by 1:30 on a Saturday! This is not the first time I've gotten there before 1:30 and was denied service because they are closed early. It gets earlier and earlier everyday. That was my final attempt to eat there. It's really too bad that the owner is so rude to customers and staff. She's going to run that place straight into the ground. Best of luck.

UPDATE: gave it one more try because I so badly wanted to have a good experience... Same rude owner lady, same problems. I asked about the special omelette, decided that wasn't what I was looking for, ordered what I wanted, then she says that she knows what I want and ordered me the special... I went along with it thinking that she was somehow helping me out to save me a buck or something, giving her the benefit of the doubt, then when it comes out all wrong and I tell her it is not what I ordered, she says it's all my fault because I ordered it, and continues to blame me for ordering the wrong thing literally for probably 2 minutes. At this point we just want to leave and she says, "no, I will get you what you want, just wait here one minute." My new omelette still comes out wrong and she charged me for both of the meals! And the peanut butter pancake tasted nothing like it used to. So sad to see something once so...

The nostalgia and the waitress, who was doing a great job/ I felt bad for, is the only reason I'm giving this place two stars.

Food: I ordered an omelet. When I think of an Omelet, I think of a fluffy blanket of eggs holding the delicate veggies or various meats. However the style in which they choose to cook an Omelet, I was not a fan. It was so thin and I felt like the egg was completely lost. However all the veggies were crunchy and appeasing. When it came to the French Toast, I was so disappointed. Just because one dips thick cut bread into an egg does not mean it's French Toast... what about the sugar, what about the cinnamon, or vanilla? Unfortunately the mark was missed.

Service: The service was good, but confusing. The young lady who helped us was nice and honestly doing the best she could. The owner was rudly yelling at her in the middle of the diner or loudly telling her customers are ready to order when she is trying to run tickets or get drinks. We honestly felt so bad, I can deal with sub par food, but being rude to your workers I cannot stand. That being said I will never be returning to this...
