Old Rooster has a wide variety of beautiful items to admire for a first-timer, but that is about it. It is clear from the layers of dust on merchandise, the laughable prices, and the never-changing selection that it appears to be nothing more than a place to show off their goods, as I have rarely seen anybody purchasing anything during the times I had visited. Ironically, I overheard the employees discussing the fact that nobody is buying items anymore, but they (and a number of the vendors) seem entirely out of touch with reality regarding pricing, item descriptions and "rarity". Lamps listed for hundreds as mid-century and vintage with a made in China sticker, an empty plastic Aunt Jemima syrup bottle for $10.00, two pairs of disposable restaurant chopsticks for $4.00.. I have found many, many items they have for sale, at far lower prices elsewhere.
My suggestion to Old Rooster, the employees, owners and dealers: Be more realistic with your pricing, modernize your store, and remember that your customers are your lifeline. People listen, and people talk. It is a shame, I enjoy browsing locally, however every other antique store in the surrounding communities are priced far better, friendlier, more modern and offer a better shopping experience. I would recommend a short trip to Stewartville, Kasson or...
Read morethis cute little store is in the downtown/exciting part of town. they’ve got plenty of free parking in the back as well. they’ve got lots of fancy dishes, glasses, silverware, furniture in the basement, postcards, some vintage vinyls, and even really cool antique lamps. they also have a bathroom. i found some hidden treasures, however some of the items are part of sets that can’t always be separated individually. nonetheless, you’re not losing money in my opinion. the guy who was working there when i came was very sweet and accommodating. he let me put some things in the front so that i could look around more with free hands. when paying for my goodies, he was very nice and asked me about where i was from and how’d i get to rochester. the overall experience was super lovely and i would of...
Read moreEvelyn from Old Rooster Antiques has not only once, but twice followed me around and harassed me regarding my service animal. This is discrimination. I also feel that some of the harassment was racially and financially motivated as she has made multiple comments regarding things being pricey, alluding to her thinking I wouldn’t be able to afford it. This kind of treatment for paying customers is unacceptable. She has in the past changed her tune as soon as I have given my Mayo ID though, which is very telling. Gordon Kranz, please contact me. I love the items you have to offer here, but I abhor being stalked and harassed by your racist...
