Good food, AWFUL SERVICE !!!
They say third times a charm. Well, I was hoping that was going to be the case tonight at Mango Thai, not so much. The night was off to a good start, my bestie and I do dinner at least one a week and since Zzest (our favorite place) has closed we are on the hunt for a new place...
A little back story, the first few times went like this..
First time, food, not my favorite. The tempura app was so DOUGHY it was disgusting. My friend said try again that she loved the food but hated the service but she puts up with it because again, she liked the food. She said impossible to go to for lunch break the service was so slow you'd be late to go back to work. (That wasn't my problem.. THE FIRST TIME.)
Second time, SLOWEST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD. If anyone knows me, they know I am a foodie, I love to eat and especially go out to eat. This waitress was so slow, when I went to look for her I COULDN'T EVEN FIND HER. (SO annoying... like hello Id love 1.) water the food has a kick. 2.) Another martini, I'm trying to have a good time here...
Third time, Tonight, Started great. Waitress was sweet I talked to her about a few options I had looked at, picked one out, and ordered a lychee martini (Itchi Tokyos is better, just saying!) Waitress was sweet.. Until, she started rushing us. I asked, at 8:55. "How late are you open?" (Feeling rushed.)"10pm don't worry you don't have to rush"- Her response .. I have my entree already and I know Ill be gone before 10pm. 9:20/25ishpm she comes over puts the check on the table (WHEN IM STILL EATING) and asks if I will want a box or dessert??? WHAT??? Well I would have maybe wanted dessert but now no, my response.. "I AM STILL EATING DINNER."
Needless to say, not a impressed customer... third time is...
Read moreWe have been customers of Mango Thai for many visits and years while in residence in Rochester, MN. It is our go-to place for a nice dining with modern Asian-influenced and fusion food. It is also a nice local business to support.
This review is a compilation of many visits as well as a recent visit during a pandemic which made it even more special. On my wedding day, our original caterer (another local business) ran out of food that our guests were going to order so we had to brainstorm other locally-owned restaurant that we can support during this pandemic on our wedding day. Mango Thai came to mind as we've ordered from there a few times since the pandemic began. I was able to visit Mango Thai in person the day of my wedding and told them this situation about food for my wedding and they did not disappoint. The food was excellent, it was ready in a timely manner (we had about 14 guests in our down-sized, COVID-era wedding), and they were very understanding of our situation. The food was definitely well-priced and portions were great!
I highly recommend Mango Thai not just to order take-out from (during COVID), eventually eat there once restrictions are lifted, and if you ever are in an emergency for catering, hit them up!
Seared Lamb was succulent (what my wife and myself had) We heard from our guests that they also enjoyed your food: Chicken Fried Rice Panang Curry (also our favorite) Green Curry Ginger Roasted Duck Seared Salmon Pad Thai Cashew Chicken All were excellent and our...
Read moreThe food here is really tasty and it is an interesting up-scale take on Thai food. The inside of the restaurant is really sleek and the staff is professional. They have a main restaurant location and a skyway food court satellite location. What I don't like is their pretentious prices. I ordered their Thai fried rice at the food court one day and the portion is what I would call medium. I should have looked at the price before I ordered. With tax, the fried rice was over 11.00. For Lunch. It's fried rice. I thought maybe this was just a skyway premium thing, but it is $12-14 at the restaurant location and the portion is about the same size just served in a fancy bowl. Mango Thai, I get making profit, I do. Fried rice is one of the quickest and most inexpensive dishes that you can make, particularly the varieties without meat in them. You should not be charging $11.00 for a lunch portion, and your dinner portion should be big enough to bring home leftovers for $12+ dollars. The majority of Thai dishes are a combination of noodles or rice with some sauce and a protein. They are incredibly inexpensive to make, which is why Thai food is often so affordable comparatively. Well, not at Mango Thai. Like I said, if the prices don't bother you the food is really tasty, but I'd rather go to Pho Thai or somewhere that I will get a larger portion for less money and...
