So let me start by explaining that this is a lovely location with a great pub menu that's conveniently located near the Mayo Civic Theater where we had tickets for an event tonight. We were looking for a nice spot for before-the-show dinner and were especially pleased that it was warm enough in mid-October to sit in the quaint rooftop area. We had researched this place months earlier as we were from out of town and had no dining experience in the area. After reviewing the excellent tap list and ordering a couple of notable drafts including a Belgian Tripple we also put in our order for a couple of yummy looking signature burgers. I should also point out that our 5:20 PM arrival meant that we had gotten in well before the Friday night crowd would arrive. As we waited we enjoyed the fall evening with pleasant conversation about our 7 PM concert as well as watching people come and go, sipping our brews along with a couple of sodas. We started to get concerned at 6 PM when we noted we had been waiting longer then anyone else seated yet still hadn't received our food. The staff was fairly busy and we realized that many places were struggling with staffing so we were prepared to wait but by 6:20 when our server was bringing food for others around us I asked how much longer we would have to wait having been there for an hour. As soon as I asked I could see in her face that something was wrong. She then explained that "this was her fault" and she was going to take care of it now. At that point we were faced with potentially being late for an event we had been waiting several months for and when she returned to retake our order we told her that we were just going to leave as she proceeded to apologize because she had forgotten to put our order in. It's unfortunate this one mistake put our entire evening in jeopardy and led to this honest (and lengthy :)) review. I try and always leave fair and unbiased feedback whenever I can and always take situational considerations into account to...

First time here. Large restaurant with lots of rooftop seating. I came on a Saturday night and was able to see myself right away. The perfect place to have dinner on a warm summer night. Took a little while to get service, at least 5 minutes before a waitress acknowledged my table.

Large beer menu, 25+ on tap, extensive cocktail menu. Ordered a beer and it came out with a bunch of flecks on the bottom. They said it was something with the keg but I've never seen that before (she did offer me a different beer if I wanted). Told her I would look at the menu and took another 10 to 15 minutes before she took my food order, she was around but took a while to come back to my table (which sometimes happens as a single patron).

Got the wings and the tater tots. Nothing too write home to. They don't do half and half wing flavoring unless you order them off the side. I got buffalo. The wings leave something to be desired. They honestly have more breading on them than they have meat. But they were crispy and had plenty of sauce. The tater tots are basic, not seasoned, and the green onion topping did not appear the freshest, it was a very pale green/white, which just makes it appear less appetizing.

If it wasn't for the rooftop, probably wouldn't come back, but only if I came with a group of people on a special occasion, would not be a regular...

Terrible experience....

I ordered a pretty standard burger and fries. Took a bite of one fry and it was cold. The cheese on my burger wasn't melted. I ripped off a small chunk off the side of the burger and it was cold. So I politely mentioned this to the waitress and she said she would have them remake it.

After about three minutes, she brings me out a new burger and fries. I couldn't believe it came out so quickly, and I jokingly said to my friend, "they just microwaved this, right?" The fries were warm, and the burger had two pieces of cheese this time; however, there was a small chunk ripped off the side of the burger....the same piece that I ripped off the burger the first time!

When the waitress returned, I asked her if they microwaved my burger, and she said, "No, they remade it." I pointed out that I tried a small piece of the first burger, and that I could see the same chunk out of this burger, and her response was "well, they told me they remade it." lol sure ok lady.

She said they would remake it again (you can imagine how confident I was at this point), but my friends were basically done eating at this point, so I said that I didn't want it anymore, and then I got a delicious burger at Culvers on the way home.

So, needless to say, I wouldn't recommend the Tap House...

Taphouse is conveniently located in downtown Rochester close to Mayo & other locations making it an easy stops for visitors. Their beer selection is thorough & adventurous. I particularly enjoyed the New Holland's Dragon's Milk. A hearty, satisfying dark beer. I've tried the herb & garlic cream cheese burger & tots which made this sick gal visiting Mayo happy. I'm not sure how they get their tots to crispy perfection, but they do. Sunday nights they have trivia starting at 7pm which was enjoyable. I had a comfy 4 top booth to myself & felt guilty since the place was full & offered to move if my server wished but she assured me I was fine. This will be a return stop for me for at least another night to work through their beer menu ... and tots. Duh!

Obligatory 28% charged between tip and service fee plus an additional 3% for credit card. How is charging an extra 31% fair?!. This is absolutely outrageous and not even close to market. Add that onto the $7 per drink for non alcoholic drinks (cherry sprite) with no free refills. This place is absolutely a poor value. Parking is also difficult and you have to pay metered parking. Food was average (although chips were stale and below average). Service was moderately acceptable. Menu prices are higher than even downtown Minneapolis! Would not go back to again.
