First impression walking in was cozy and comfortable mixed with sports bar. The long modern fireplace was on when we arrived. It's a very nice touch. The staff was very pleasant and our waiter did an amazing job. He was attentive, but not over bearing and very knowledgeable able to answer all of our questions. Our drinks from the bar were crafted very well. We appreciated that we were able to chat at our table and enjoy most of our drinks without being hounded to order food. The food was hit and miss. We ordered onion rings and they were excellent. The Goat sauce which is just purple colored ranch dressing wasn't anything special. If your going to have a signature sauce you need to do more than put purple food dye in ranch dressing. Two of us had the rotisserie chicken. It was very juicy, but the skin had no crispness to it at all. Then when I cut into the breast there was still blood in the inner parts near the ribs. It obviously was not cooked enough, at least for me. It was also room temperature when it arrived, seems like a recipe for salmonella to me. I ate a little of the outer part of the breast and left the rest. The other persons chicken was about the same as mine. The mashed potatoes were great as well as the gravy. The asparagus was good as well. My wife ordered the patty melt, she said the rye bread was way too strong with caraway and the bread was soggy. She only ate about half of it. Her french fries were great, perfectly cooked crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The other person in our party had a pasta dish, that they said was very good. Since this was a special occasion we had desert and it was probably the highlight of the evening. The chocolate cake, peanut butter cheesecake and the raspberry cheesecake were all top notch.
So in the end my wife did end up getting sick that evening shortly after we went to bed she was in the bathroom throwing up. Fortunately it didn't get any worse and she could get back to sleep. I was concerned about myself after eating the chicken that I might get sick, but I didn't.
Bottom line, we won't be back any time soon. I think the menu poor and too much to read with every item having an explanation of what's in it. If they are trying to have a small menu so they can execute everything flawlessly, they have...
Read moreHonestly one of the worst experiences that I've had at a restaurant. I have low expectations with the food in Rochester because let's face it, Rochester doesn't have the best food in Minnesota. This restaurant has potential, but it seems as though the owners/managers care more about asthetics than properly training their staff and actually taking care of their guests. The food is pretty average, not terrible but not great.
The experience went downhill when we kept getting interrupted with food we didn't order. This happened on three separate occasions. Please train your staff to know where they're going. Communication in the kitchen is horrendous. Your staff deserve better. I'd be surprised if their staff stay with them for long.
The icing on the cake was when the rest of the table got their food before me and I had to wait at least 20 minutes before getting a salad (yep, a salad). My table was done eating by the time they brought out the WRONG salad and had to get me the correct one. The salad was good, not great. However, the waitress just seemed flustered but not apologetic at all. She probably just assumed she lost the tip from us, which isn't the case at all. It's not something I blame her for. The only thing I blamed her for was not doing anything to rectify not being able to eat my food with the rest of the table. The manager never stopped by, she never comped any portion of the meal, or gave us anything for the incredibly terrible service. I've been a waitress before and I understand how stressful the industry is, but if this would have happened to one of my tables I would have alerted the manager and they would have done something for the guest.
The only reason they got two stars was because the food was decent. Their communication, training, and service was terrible. I will honestly never return. And the fake reviews on here show just how much the owners don't care about their...
Read moreSo, I initially called in my order because I assumed on a Friday night it would be busy. However, when I went in it was actually slow. So, decided to eat at the bar. Walking in my first impression coming in was good. There are multiple areas in you can eat in. They also have a outside patio. The atmosphere was great. The menu has variety of meal options available. Multiple drinks options. They also have Happy Hour. As for the prices for the food and drinks, it's seems to be right in line from any other restaurant/bar here in Rochester. The food was good. I think what makes Purple Goat stand out is the atmosphere. Also, it's big. So it doesn't feel cramp. The only thing that prevented me from giving this place a 4 star was the customer service. I sat at the bar. There was probably four people sitting. The bartender totally ignored me. I had to ask for a drink. I had to ask for a knife. I had to ask for napkins. Which I could have been like like ok whatever. But what made it worst he still address everyone else sitting there. The one thing I love about NEWTS is how great they are at bar. EVERY seat could be taken and I am still checked on multiple times. The person at bar at Purple Goat did not say one thing and I had to ask for check. I think he realized I was a little perplexed bc when asked 4 check he just said oh 5.50 for drink. I gave him cash so I assumed he was going to bring my change and the receipt. He brings just the change. I told him I want the receipt. I think his name José. Hopefully he reads and take learning lesson. In the meantime I will continue to take business to NEWTS. For what it's worth. I ordered the Sacramento Smash Burger and...
