Whistle Binkies Olde World Pub — Restaurant in Rochester

Visited at 6:30 on a Friday. The place was completely packed inside and on the patio. Sign at the door said "Please seat yourself". Except for two tables in the side room that were designated for social distancing, it didn't appear that any COVID social distancing was happening inside the restaurant. The dining room looks exactly as we remember pre-COVID and doesn't appear any tables had been removed. We felt uncomfortable being inside, so we went onto the patio. Outside we found an empty table that had not been bussed. We politely stepped aside and waited for about 5+ minutes for our server to bus and disinfect the table. She had to continually ask customers not to sit at other dirty tables nearby until she was able to clean them. Aside from spraying something on the table and wiping it off, nothing else was disinfected (chair arms, etc). Our server was delightful and attentive, our food took 15+ longer than the table right next to us who ordered at the same time (2 of us), and drinks were quick. I like the use of a virtual menu (scan QR code with cell phone).

IMO the restaurant should have someone bussing tables and seating people once the table is clean to avoid people sitting at dirty tables. It also would eliminate the number of people walking around the restaurant trying to find...

My husband and I have stopped at Whistle Binkie's North often and typically enjoy the food, service and atmosphere. We especially like the daily specials. Last night, I tried ordering dinner online for pickup (something we did several times during the prime of the pandemic and always had a positive experience). Twice, while using their website, I received notice that they were busy, unable to take my order. As I was in the area, and since I was not sure if it was received or not, I stopped in. No servers were to be found, so when the bartender was down near the door, I asked if their online ordering system was down, that I was there to confirm whether my order was received or not. He rudely responded "yea, could be" and immediately went about his business. No offer to check for me, 'let me finish "this" and I'll get back to you, have someone else assist me, etc. I'm hoping it was simply an off-night for this bartender and not indicative of service degradation at this used-to-be 'friendly neighborhood bar &...

Great food. Good service. Decent prices. Always a "special" to choose from for food and drinks each night.

We've tried MANY different things on their menu and everything has been good. Extensive menu and choices for everyone, even the pickiest of eaters. I have multiple food allergies, unfortunately ☹️, and they have choices for me even! 😄 It's our go-to place for a quick meal, when we don't want to cook. We enjoy the causal atmosphere and most people Love their popcorn. Their beer selection is awesome!! Especially if you like trying different beer!! Unfortunately, I can no longer drinks beer due to an allergy, so I watch my dinner companions enjoy theirs.
