I dined at Delicacy Chinese in Rock Hill, where the experience exceeded my expectations. The restaurant serves American-Cantonese style cuisine, and parking was a breeze—free and ample, a great start to what would be a satisfying meal.
Our server, Ian, was attentive from the moment we sat down. He made sure our water glasses were always full and checked in regularly, enhancing the overall dining experience with his friendly demeanor and prompt service.
We started our meal with a mix of fried and steamed pork dumplings—six of each. Unfortunately, I couldn’t snap a photo of the full serving because we couldn’t resist diving in right away. The dumplings were clearly handmade, with delicate, thin wrappers and a perfect balance of flavors. None of that thick, gummy texture you sometimes get with frozen options. They came with a dumpling dipping sauce that complemented them perfectly.
One of the highlights at Delicacy Chinese is their lunch combo, which is available even on weekends. I ordered my go-to dish for any Chinese restaurant, the General Tso’s Chicken combo. The combo comes with your choice of fried or white rice and a side of either a Rangoon, vegetable spring roll, or—for an extra $0.50—an egg roll. I opted to upgrade to the egg roll, and it was well worth it. This egg roll was packed with meat and infused with flavors of Chinese five-spice and curry. It wasn’t the usual cabbage-heavy roll; instead, it was flavorful and satisfying, leaving me wishing I had another.
As for the General Tso’s Chicken, it was phenomenal. The chicken was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and coated in a sauce that had just the right balance of sweetness and heat. It’s definitely the best I’ve had in the surrounding Charlotte area, and while I don’t have a go-to spot in the city itself, Delicacy Chinese now tops my list of favorites.
One of my dining partners ordered the Mongolian beef combo and was equally impressed. The beef was tender, and the sauce was well-balanced—not too sweet and not overloaded with onions, which can sometimes be a problem at other Chinese restaurants.
One small note: if you choose fried rice as a side, it’s just wok-fried with soy sauce—no veggies or egg. It’s simple but works well with the bold flavors of the main dishes.
Overall, Delicacy Chinese is my new top choice for Chinese food, and I’m more than willing to make the trip to Rock Hill whenever I have a craving. A word of advice, though: dine in rather than order takeout. The food is best enjoyed fresh from the kitchen, where it’s piping hot and...
Read moreI can't believe I never checked out this place 'til now...
The place was small with a simple decor...but seemingly clean, with great A/C. Also, as their name implied ("Bistro"), the place is Americanized, with American pop overhead music. However, all-out authentic Chinese food! Not super-fancy, but this might be THE only Chinese restaurant in Rock Hill with some semblance of ambiance...so YAY for that!
I stopped in to try their Singapore Rice Noodle and Edamame (Spicy)...and both were surprisingly good! Not only fresh and delicious, but very generous in portion, and modestly priced. Presentation wasn't bad either!
Somehow, I just didn't expect good food here...and even more so, nicely presented foods. I expected rough, slapstick Chinese fast food...but the foods seemed pretty upscaled, with good presentation even! Very surprising...especially for Rock Hill standards. Frankly, it's the best Chinese food I've had in Rock Hill...on par with the Chinese foods in Charlotte (and beyond). Given the comfy dining ambiance, it's probably the nicest too.
Service was super-friendly and attentive as well...and the foods came out fresh, piping hot in a timely manner.
Given what I've experienced today, I can't believe the ratings here are so low. Again, this has to be the best Chinese restaurant in Rock Hill. Everything else in town is Chinese fast food...some of which are priced higher than what's delivered here. For instance, I noticed that their lunch specials are below 9 bucks!! There's no way other Chinese restaurants (Chinese fast foods!) in Rock Hill should have higher ratings than here! For the items I ordered today...Edamame (Spicy) and Singapore Rice Noodles, they both deserved 5 stars! YUM!!
Anyway, so glad I checked out the place...and am sure to return, for both take-out...
Read moreI'm not saying all of their food is garbage. Fried rice - Fresh/On Point. Egg rolls - they're iite. Other than the SESAME CHICKEN, I'm sure that they some other great entrees. I ordered sesame chicken here on 11/17 at 10PM, they close at 10:30PM.
The white meat sesame chicken that I upgraded to was basically shredded chicken that was mostly batter. The grade of the meat was very poor and honestly, between the batter there was barely any chicken in there. I basically just had rice for dinner because i can't say that I had eaten any portion of chicken tonight. I'm 26, I've been to Chinese restaurants from mostly Charlotte, Belmont, Gastonia, and Mooresville.
Just wanted to make everyone aware because I livid when I found out I would have to find something else for dinner tonight because I couldn't count on local Chinese to deliver REAL chunks of white chicken breast to fry and cover with some sauce and sesame seeds.
I'm writing because I don't believe this is a one time occurrence. This is probably just how they regularly do business and I would like it to change so I have a decent Chinese food option when I'm...
