The waitresses and cooks were super cool with true southern hospitality. This was my first time visiting The Dixie Pig and I absolutely loved it. That's not to say I wouldn't change up flavor on some things, but the atmosphere picks up where the food potentially drops. I ordered the 1/4 chicken with braised cabbage and mac & cheese for my sides. While the sides were good and I'd order them again I had expected the cabbage to be a little more firm vs super soft and tender and the mac & cheese probably could have sun bathed a while longer. For the chicken, I ordered whatever was the quickest to grab when it came to white vs dark meat. I received white and was pretty tough but full of flavor. The waitress was super cool and without me ordering it brought an extra piece of the dark meat, which was phenomenal. No sauce was needed for the chicken tho I tried them all twice. I can't leave a review on the sauces as I tried them all and at first I only liked the rib sauce when I only dipped my fork in and tried them. Then I tried each one on the chicken and all were accepting except for the tomato base sauce. So truly you have to try them for yourselves. Sweet tea was out of this world on point. Dessert I couldn't pass up their peanut butter pie. Sadly the pie was the only thing I took a picture of, but it was very smooth and inviting. However the pie took me by surprise when it was served with what I think was rice krispies on top of whip cream on top of chocolate syrup. Lol Between the chocolate and pie was a layer of peanuts. I could have done without the nuts but with a slight move of the fork, the nuts exited the stage. So like I said, the hospitality took over where the food potentially drops. Over all great work Dixie Pig, I absolutely will return and per your request will brings samples of my recipes. Thank you...
Read moreMy wife and I ordered takeout from here. It looks like the type of place that could really surprise you. Laundromat next door. It's got that "It doesn't look like much but I bet they know what they're doing" sort of vibe and the 4.5 star rating seemed to support my suspicion. I was wrong. We ordered two pulled-pork sandwich meals with baked beans, and an extra side of potato salad. Food was ready when we got there and all was good with that part of the process. The food itself was not good. It didn't look good and it didn't taste good either. I ended up eating most of the baked beans because I was hungry and it was the only thing that I could tolerate, but there was nothing special about them - pretty much just seemed like regular baked beans from a can with added pulled pork. The potato salad was meh - had two or three bites. I took one bite of the pulled pork and decided I wasn't eating any of the rest of it. Weird texture and taste. I ended up dipping the bun from my sandwich into my two bbq sauces (house and bourbon I think) and they were decent and interesting in a good way. I think my wife had one bite of the baked beans and one bite of the pulled-pork sandwich and then threw the rest away. I'm not that hard to please when it comes to BBQ. I enjoy a pulled pork sandwich from just about anywhere - Cookout, QuikTrip, etc. I had a pulled-pork sandwich from QuikTrip the other day with a hard stale bun that I would...
Read moreThis place really does justice to its number 10 spot on the Yelp Charlotte top 100 list. It's a little hole in the wall and we loved everything about it.
We started with the Grilled Pork Belly with Asian glaze and chopped peanuts. This was the best pork belly I've ever had. It melted in your mouth and the glaze was delicious.
For an entree, we split the BBQ Pork plate with Dixie Gold sauce. This was also the best pulled pork I've ever had. Some of the edges of the pork were crispy and I loved that. The gold sauce had a bit of vinegar flavor too and we really liked it.
Our sides were red slaw and mac and cheese. Continuing the trend, the red slaw was delicious and by far the best I've tried. The mac and cheese was the one thing thing that fell a little short, not bad, but not great in my opinion. The plate came with a couple of hush puppies as well which were pretty good.
We went all out on dessert and got the Peach Dumplings and the Black Betty. On their own, the peach dumplings were very good. Nothing can compare to the Black Betty though. A warm donut filled with raspberry topped with cheesecake has to be one of the best dessert creations.
As an added bonus, the service is incredibly fast and friendly and the prices are cheap.
This is the best BBQ I've been to in the Charlotte area and...
