So….this is our second day in a row here on vacation. Both days we had the lovely Bree and master chef Joe making our food. Yesterday’s food included clam chowder, fried dill pickle spears and a few beers while we waited for a pizza to go as we were going to take that to eat on the beach. Today was fish and chips, more clam chowder, jalepano poppers and a few more beers. The food: Clam chowder was fantastic- ultra clammy without being too clammy. Lovely clam to potato ratio. The pizza was a half pepperoni half pineapple. It was pretty to look and delicious in flavor. The sauce was really good and it had an extra dash of herbs on top to really finish it off. Fish and chips- really good and decent portions! If you aren’t getting any sides, indulge in a 3 piece. If getting sides, a two piece will suffice. The staff: Amazing. Master Chef Joe clearly takes his job seriously. He is really good at what he does and you can tell he takes pride in his recipes. And Bree….she not only is engaging, she is hilarious and fun. She is attentive and super sweet. She took care of us well and made us feel like we had already been friends for a long time. I really like her. Ultimately, come for Joe’s chowder, stay for Bree’s heartfelt hospitality.

We stayed on the beach across the street from Lakeside Hideaway, so naturally we found our way over there. ( Yes it is a family restaurant! My wife was wrong! it's not just a bar, I was right!! ) everyone remember that please haha. Walking in We we're immediately greeted and walked to a booth. Our server was prompt to get our drinks and onion rings ( beer battered ) they we're absolutely delicious, fried properly in clean oil. The wife ordered the Teriyaki burger ..... and even though I'm not a fan... she said it was To Die For!! Lol I had the ( bread battered ) Fish and chips and at first ... I won't lie, I have never liked bread battered anything only beer battered. It's just softer on my gums. So let me tell you how excited I was to find my fish was perfectly bread battered. I mean whoever the cook is should really be proud of his cooking. Hell even my kids mini corn dogs were perfect hahaha. Service was awesome all around, we will definitely be returning and recommending! Thank you Lakeside Hideaway for running a proper establishment!....OMG!!! I totally frickin forgot!!! TRY THE CLAM CHOWDER!! We had that too and it was soooooo goood!

We really enjoy this place. Been here a few times this year. Lauren took care of us last night and we had a wonderful time. Good hot food, and the gals work hard to keep up when it gets busy- be kind to them and they will take good care of you! Thank you cooks for tasty hot food and thank you front staff ladies. Great phillys, onion rings, really good clam chowder bread bowls (highly recommended), fried fresh oysters, fresh salads, burgers, cold beer (including one of my favorites Dead Guy Ale from Rogue) Fun but low key and calm adult side area with pool tables and bar. Good family side with TVs and pleasant music on. One of my fav Rockaway places just a quick 1/2 mile from the sometimes too busy ‘downtown’ Rockaway. Be patient if its busy, have a beer or wine, and have a good time!

I made the mistake of stopping at the Lakeside Hideaway because it looked busy with all of the cars parked outside. In summary: 1. The service was poor. 2. The food was mediocre at best. 3. They surprisingly had a cider on tap.

To start off it took 20 minutes or more to get the waitress to take my order. I almost decided to leave before ordering. The place was moderately busy but not so much that it should have taken so long.

It also took an above average amount of time to get the food brought out. I'm not sure if it was because of the kitchen or the servers.

I believe that I ordered a glass of the Schilling blackberry pear cider. It's not my favorite but it was a cider on tap which surprised me. It seems like quite a few bars have this cider variety on tap in my recent visits. The drink was delivered fairly quickly.

For food, I ordered the southwestern burger. I would probably give it 2 out of 5 stars at best. The bun was some sort of white bread bun that fell apart while eating the burger. The pickled jalapenos and hot sauce were okay but nothing special. The burger also had medium chopped ice berg lettuce on it which left a small salad on the plate because it wouldn't stay in the bun.

I ordered the fries as the side and tartare sauce as my dipping sauce. I thought that because this place served a lot of seafood (fish and chips especially since it was all-you-can-eat night) that they might have a good tartare sauce. The tartare sauce tasted like a sweet jarred version from some major brand at a grocery store. Needless to say I was disappointed. The fries were not bad but it might have been the smallest portion that I have been given at a bar.

I don't know much about the rest of the menu but I probably won't go back to check it out.

Update.

After the inappropriate and rude response that I received from the owner I felt the need to respond. I have had many burgers in my lifetime and I don't/won't eat at McDonald's. If you can't take an honest look at your food then you need to have people give their honest opinion. Maybe you need to broaden your experience and try food outside of your local area. I would be willing to bet that your southwestern burger is below average if you took a poll of 25 or so bars/restaurants. I regret not taking pictures but I think that my descriptions are fairly thorough and accurate. I tried adding photos of other burgers I have enjoyed but the app seems to crash when adding them. I can name a half dozen bars/restaurants off the top of my head in the Seattle area that have much better burgers at the same price point. There are also some in the area that have similar burgers to the one you served and I rate them...

If you're considering eating here; don't waste your money. If I could leave zero stars I would. Took a much needed 5 day family vacation and out of all the places we got food from, this was by far the worst food at the highest prices and bad service to boot. The only thing that was any good were the oysters but they were very overpriced. We paid $28 for what looked like a child's size shrimp pasta that tasted like nothing but olive oil and was very watery and greasy, and $13 for an appetizer size Cesar salad PLUS $5 to get maybe 2 ounces of tiny salad shrimp on it. In total we spent about $140 on the aforementioned meals, pizza that was burned, hard, and tasted like cardboard, and a dry, way over done hamburger. When my daughter ordered the hamburger she asked if they could hold the mayo and add pickles, ketchup, and mustard. What she got was completely plain and when she said something to the waitress the waitress was very rude.

Edit: i noticed that the owner or manager left a response to my review. This person's claim that I'm obviously a disgruntled employee is unbelievably ridiculous and just shows their level of concern for customer satisfaction. I've been employed in various positions in the food service and hospitality industry, including everything from hostess and fast food service positions to management and senior chef positions. As a restaurant manager, if i had ever caught any of the waitstaff that performing as poorly as the waitress here i would have immediately rescheduled this person's next couple of shifts to be covered by another employee and slotted this person for retraining. If i had ever caught an employee responding to a customer complaint in the manner that this person responded to my review, they would have been fired on the spot. Let me be very clear here, i have NEVER worked at this restaurant, nor would i want to work anywhere that has such little care for customer satisfaction and responds to customer reviews with such immaturity. I live more than 6 hours away in a different state, and have my whole life. To whoever wrote the response to my review, if you put your focus on learning from reviews and complaints and use what you learn to change and improve your business you'll be far better off in the long run than if you simply choose to sit behind a keyboard and leave snarky and just plain...

I'll start with the good. The food was decent hence the 2 stars. Otherwise service was terrible. Upon walking in it was pretty busy for the 7 tables they had. The server was walking to a table and did not acknowledge us as we walked in not even a smile or anything. Was helping a table then the phone rang. Excused her self to go answer the phone walking right past us still no acknowledgement. Talked to the person on the phone put them on hold went back to helping the table then finally told us she was going to finish the call and help us. We got seated and when she came for the first time to take our order just asked "what she could get started." We gave 1 of the kids a go ahead to start ordering and he asked if he was ordering a drink or food. At that point we were all ready to order food so he wasn't sure. Her answer was "I just have to put something in" to a kid they don't know what that means. The rest of the order process was borderline rude. We do give grace as our 1 year old was crying because he wanted to run around and we weren't letting him but we can't be the only ones who have this happen. We were close to our hotel and didn't want to have to find another place to go so we stayed but after ordering we contemplated just leaving. For having family restaurant in the name and advertised as a family restaurant it just didn't seem very family friendly( towards young children anyway) no crayons or coloring was offered the server seemed to be more pleasant with other tables( we were the only ones with young children which 3 of the 4 were being good) Not sure coloring would have helped the crying kid but it might have but the other 3 would have loved it. Disappointed for sure. Also it may be just how the machine is not something that can be changed but when paying the auto tip options were 18, 19, and 20%. Usually it's 10, 15 and 20% after the rest of the experience it's just a little off putting that it's assumed your getting top percentage even though service was not good. We come to the beach alot and most likely...
