You cant find a better place, everything from the price to the location to the service! We were surprised by the kitchenette that seriously included everything from a toaster to plates and silverware, mixing bowls, pots and pans, and a whistle steam pot! ( this alone saved us several dollars so we could shop local and have a good meal that made us feel at home away from home and healthy cooking) The view from the second story is amazing and definitely worth the stairs others have complained about they are not that bad. ( the balcony comes equipped with chairs and table and the room has thick blankets to keep warm with while enjoying the balcony view) Easement to beach is super easy and accessible and they even have a wash station to remove sand from shoes or feet before entering hotel brilliant! They have a charcoal bbq and picnic tables for use for guests also. The front desk clerk was super friendly and expressed safety home as we checked out do to recent accidents in area. ( they are great at hospitality) The fire place being out of service was not a big deal just buy a bundle of fire wood and have a fire on the beach. Room was clean and fully furnished with above and beyond what we expected even the cleaning staff was friendly! Sincerely not trying to be rude but if you are a perfectionist or one who expects everything on a silver platter then this place is not for you , they truly and honestly try to give you a great experience at the best price and any Realtor will tell you location is everything which this place has hands down even walking up and down the beach my wife and I were grateful we picked Tradewinds as our stay do to everything I mentioned above very few other places like it just saying! Thank You Tradewinds we will be back and refer to others definitely! God Bless...
Read moreIf you are looking for a place with luxury items like room service, spa treatments and a pool, you won't find it here. What you will find is a nice maintained oceanfront property with recent updates like remodeled bathrooms, kitchenettes (not all rooms have kitchenettes though) new carpeting, new furnishings, new tv sets etc. There's no air conditioning, but the winds off the ocean at night cool you off really quickly! The upstairs beach facing rooms have balconies that you can sit on, sip your beer, coffee or whatever drinks you can desire while viewing the gorgeous oceanic horizon! The downstairs beach facing rooms have decks that allow instantaneous access to the beach, and yes you can sit and lounge on those as well. The fireplaces are wood burning and are out of order. I suspect this is due to insurance and liability reasoning as I have family background in insurance policy underwriting. Also the rooms are non smoking. The only issue I have, (and it's not even an issue with this place but it's an issue with beachfront properties in Oregon in general) is a lot of people like to come to the Oregon coast and burn Driftwood on the beach. Burning driftwood smells, but burning Driftwood that has been drenched and is damp with salt water stinks even worse. Be aware of that wherever you go. The place is within easy walking distance of a local restaurant called lakeside hideaway which has killer clam chowder and chef salads, and another place is Dollar general if you need to get last-minute items. Here are some pictures we took of the place. Pay no attention to my dingy but comfy...
Read moreWe reserved two nights at the Tradewinds in Rockaway Beach. The hotel and general area was very disappointing. We checked in around 3pm and were assigned a second story room, which was up three flights of stairs. The motel has no elevator, so we had to drag our suitcases up those stairs. We are in our 70’s, arthritic knees and such, the stairs were miserable and exhausting. The hotel IS beachfront, but while the street side appearance is somewhat manicured with flowers, the beachside is unkempt; dead grass and battered picnic tables set in a small area leading to the beach. The room was dated; small kitchen area and a fireplace that was taped shut with a big “out of order” sign. Bed was comfy and bath fine. The neighborhood was probably the biggest disappointment; depressed area with NO restaurants or shops nearby, only a taco truck and greasy spoon restaurant/bar within walking distance, away from the beach, across the railroad tracks and a very busy highway. IMO, Rockaway Beach, particularly this area, is NOT a resort area, it is a seedy town across the highway from a beach. Within an hour of checking in, I called the hotel and said we would be staying only one night, not two. The proprietor was agreeable and said that was not a problem, and he would only charge us for one night. We left at 7:30 am the next day, but we were charged the full amount of $560 on our credit card, so we were charged for both nights. Big disappointment. Not...
