We have been patrons of Ashleys since 2001. It was always a good restaurant for birthdays, Mothers Day and special days for a pleasant, wonderful experiance. Our past 2 visits at Ashleys were not acceptable. Errors were made in our orders, it took too long to get our food with only a few people at the restaurant. They were not drowning due to a large influx of patrons. We are understanding. I'm an RN, my daughters are Drs so we know things can be difficult due to staffing. Well yesterday May 11th, Mothers Day was our last attempt at the restaurant. My daughter had made reservations for 8 people. There seemed to be no problem. They were made a few days prior. We even got a menu letting us know what was offered on Mothers Day. When my daughter arrived at Ashleys she was informed by the lady working at the desk she had no reservations. She would seat the party but it will be at least 1 hour before they would be able to order and even longer to get food. My family was waiting for me and my husband to arrive. When we got there it was very unwelcoming when I walked through the door. The same lady didn't greet me or explain they were having a difficult time. It felt like a verbal attack. First thing she said was we don't have anymore tables for you and if you stay youll have to wait for at least 1 hour before you can be seen. I could hardly speak. She was so aggressive and rude. I told her my daughter made reservations thinking that a reservation may help the situation not knowing my daughter had already been informed the reservations didnt exist. She said they are upstairs! When we met the rest of our party my daughter informed me of the rude greeting she had from the lady at the front. I told her about my experience upon opening the door of the restaurant. The wait person attending to the table was a very kind gentleman who expressed how sorry he was about the way we were treated. We ordered beverages, paid and left. We will never go back sadly. I hope things change. It would be nice if Ashleys was the place...
Read moreLove the Building! First let me say that I read a lot of reviews before we went in tonight. They looked pretty good. So we got there and the old Tavern Style Building that was built in the 1920's was awesome inside and out. We sat on the 2nd level which was pretty nice. Our waitress came right away and we ordered drinks but it was pretty obvious that she was not very out going. There was no introduction but we couldnt tell if it was her personality or she wasn't feeling good! I will say that she was pregnant and very far along so I can't understand why they would have her working on the 2nd floor. She has to climb up and down the steps for almost everything. I would think management would have her on the 1st floor for her well being and the safety of the child. So I was concerned about that situation. I would believe this would influence the way she would present herself to customers because Im sure she didnt feel to good.
Besides that I ordered the Prime Rib Sandwich with fries and my wife ordered Grilled Shrimp with vegetables & spaghetti. (Yes this is a side) Came out pretty fast. Mine was awesome... The prime rib on the sandwich was tender with no fat with a nice sandwich roll with just the right amout of crunch.
My wifes shrimp was not too good. No flavor and taste pretty bland. I tried them myself. So we traded up for fresh water Scallops but they came out under cooked. They had a good taste but I agreed they did not full cook. So she just gave up!
They waitress didnt seem to happy but wasn't rude at all. They did take that off the check. Not sure what the issue was but it's not like it hasn't happened to one of us somewhere!!
So overall I would try it again. The next time we are going to try the prime rib or some steak. So try it out. I just wanted to correctly advise...
Read moreWaited three years before finally getting the opportunity to try this place out. Glad I did - so I don't have to rush to return.
This place has SO MUCH potential! It just needs some TLC and some operational love. Seriously, the only way this place can POSSIBLY remain in business is because of its historical allure and perhaps some very dedicated local patrons imbibing at the bar.
The food was extremely lack luster. Wife had a salad but the tomatoes were all old and rotted. Had to ask for dinner rolls, which looked amazing, but were cold and hard. I had a cup of French onion soup which was pretty good, but it was made with their tap water which was horrible. I also had the mahi sticks basket. The fish was over cooked and lacked any sort of flavor. Best food delivered to our table was the shrimp scampi which had a generous portion of shrimp and angle hair pasta which was all swimming in parmesan, garlic and butter.
Service was OK. Our server came by periodically but didn't stick around long enough for us to ask for anything. Here and gone. We joked that she was the ghost of Ashley's.
The building itself and the ambiance is wonderful. But again, what would it take for someone to clean and dust just a corner here and there every day until the place was super nice and start all over again?
My recommendations: Please use fresh food. Please put a filter on your tap water and keep it up to date. Nothing worse than bad tap water? Order a soda? It comes from the same gross water. Order soup? Same ick. Please clean more than just the table tops and carpet. And please, care about your customers. This place cannot survive being the way it is, and it would be a shame to lose this historical restaurant just because someone can't put a little more...
