This place looks cute and made a good first impression. Food came very fast and portions were huge.
The ramen lacked flavor, was thin & forgettable, and the char sui was very tough & under seasoned. But it was still fine.
I tried one nigiri to test it out and the portion was very big; almost too much for a single bite. However the cut seemed to be from the outside edge of the fish with jagged edges on one side with a oddly square cut in the other. I could see spots that looked like it could be scales that weren’t fully cut off. The flavor was bland and the texture was not correct. Poor cut that was poorly executed.
There was no lunch special so I got all this at full price. The prices were also higher than other local shops that give much better ramen and nigiri.
The sushi chef looked pissed off and was likely on his last nerve. I may have come on a bad day.
I know this sounds harsh, but Noma is actually just fine. I would eat there again if I didn’t have other options. Unfortunately for Noma, there’s a ton of better options nearby that are better...
Read moreI ate at Noma on March 6, 2019. This was my first time visiting an authentic Japanese restaurant and eating freshly made ramen. Everything about this place was wonderful. Our server was a very courteous young woman who informed us that it was close to closing and we'd have to decide quickly, but also didn't rush us through ordering or eating. The spicy beef ramen was fantastic, with a very generous portion size and out of this world flavor! Their take on jalapeño poppers was very creative and delicious, with very beautiful plating on a bed of radish sliced very thin to look like rice noodles. I will definitely return again to try more of their fantastic cuisine!
(Edit) After almost 4 years, I made a return visit finally, and it was just as good now as it was then! Very courteous service, and we were remembered even though we hadn't been there in a long time! I tried the miso ramen this time, spicy, and it was perfect. My friend had the spicy beef ramen and loved it as well. I hope I am able to...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst ramen In town. I ordered The tonkotsu ramen I can describe the whole experience and disappointing to say The least. The ramen is flavorless and served luke warm. They serve the soup with a hard boiled egg, as opposed to a soft boiled egg. and none of the "what I consider" staple ingredients, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, nori (seaweed), or Naruto (the white fish cake with the pink spiral). The chausu was tastless, and the noodles were undercooked. And all their ramen is made with chicken broth.
I don't consider myself any sort of expert on Japanese cooking, but I've been around the block and I've tried most of the different ramen places in the Sacramento area, and I would not recommend this place to someone I hate.
I also got two rolls of sushi and that was also sub par. The rolls were mostly imitation crab and drowning in sauce.
If you are looking for a good ramen head to umi sushi not ten...
