This is HANDS DOWN the best Italian restaurant in Sacramento. My boyfriend and I have been searching for an Italian place like this for the last 2.5 years since we moved from Los Angeles. Not easy to find in a land where everyone seems to be enamored by chain restaurants, and so proceed to rate them on google and yelp like they are the last places for good food on earth. If you are reading this it's probably because you have waded through pages and pages of crap on google already. How unfortunate that GEMS like this get buried under so much BS.
This is the first truly AUTHENTIC Italian place we've been able to find in all of Sac. We were seated right away, as it was only moderately busy on Saturday night. They serve unlimited AMAZING bread with olive-oil and balsamic, so you'll start eating as soon as you sit.
It's owned by an actual Italian family, and you can feel their hospitality as soon as you walk in the door. They are truly HAPPY to have you at their restaurant. The owner/head chef came to our table immediately, and so passionately explained his specials to us that I knew we had found our new Italian go-to place before we even took a bite of dinner.
The entire staff was SO attentive and helpful. As soon as any one of the staff members noticed we needed more bread or were ready to order, they came right over to help us. This is a place you can count on not getting ignored just because you aren't in a waiter's "section".
The food was just hands-down INCREDIBLE. I'm going add a few more adjectives because it was that awesome- FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL, DIVINE, AMAZING... I could keep going. The food was piping hot when it came out, beautifully plated, and just so soulfully good that I almost wanted to cry. You can taste the difference when the pasta dough is made in-house rather than cooked out of a Barilla box.
At the end of our dinner they gave us a free serving of Tiramisu to share. We were already SO happy and satisfied, and then they just raised the bar another notch, which I didn't even think was possible. It was the best Tiramisu I've ever tasted. It just melted in my mouth, I'm still dreaming about it.
Do yourself a favor and stop going to Olive Garden and give this place your business-- you'll pay the same price, still get unlimited bread, experience FAR superior service, and not have to wait 2 hours for a table.
You'll be MUCH happier and you'll be supporting an incredible small business. I love this place and I'll be back next weekend....
Read moreI love Via Roma and its charming owner, Henry, so much that I often wonder why I bother trying other restaurants. If you try enough menu items, I am sure you will find something to please your tastebuds eventually. To help you, here are my favorites: Linguine Scampi Fettuccine Pollo Chicken Marsala (a weekend special; creamy, buttery polenta is so good!) Cioppino (a special offered 1st weekend of the month and more often during the winter. I think you can request pasta to accompany it, and there's also an associated Fettuccine Pescatore special.) Chicken Parmigiana Spinach Pizza Pescatore Pizza Pappardelle Creamy Smoked Salmon (a special offered mid month usually, like Valentine's Day for example) Pork Ossobucco (another special that comes with polenta) Cheese Tortellini (you can ask to sub shrimp for the scallops) Tiramisu Cannoli (weekends only) House Red Wine, Ca Momi Rosso di Napa Tawny Port, Otima 10 Heritage Ruby Port
There is a $32 3-course dinner promo Sundays and Tuesdays to Thursdays, except not on holidays. You can add your first glass of house red or white wine for $6. I tend to choose the Caesar Salad or Mista Salad for my first course. Choose any regular menu pasta. Dessert is tappetite!
The owner is half Italian and has trained in Italy. Almost all the pasta is handmade!
Go check out Via Roma....
Read moreMy family and I are from out of town and decided to eat Italian food for dinner. We were excited as the food looked authentic and delicious online. We ordered appetizers, pizza, and pasta. We asked for pink sauce in our pasta but instead, the pasta came out with red watery sauce. All of the food was extremely salty. When we told the server that the pasta wasn’t made to order, she told us she’d bring us a side of pink sauce. We asked her “what are we going to do with a side of sauce.” Rather than saying we’ll prepare you a new one, she said “you can eat the pasta with the side of sauce.” She continued to say that we should’ve told her about the error as soon as the pasta came out. We spoke with her only a couple minutes after it came out and each of us only had a bite. She said that we already ate all the pasta when it was simply poured into our plates. We poured it back into the dish to show her we didn’t eat it. Once she spoke to the guy who took our order, who knew the order was wrong, she came back and said the pasta is getting remade. At this point, our family outing was already ruined with all the arguing and waste of time. It was the worst restaurant experience that me and my family have ever had. I don’t recommend coming here at all as the food is terrible and the customer service...
