I posted a reservation with the website "Resy" nearly a month before our dining date at 'The Feather and Wedge'. When I made the reservation, I noted on the special instructions that the night in question was our wedding anniversary.
We arrived early, and were forced to wait in the heat while a wealthy local patron (who had no reservation) was given a table she wanted, at the time she wanted, for that night. The persons in charged accommodated her immediately.
After she was done negotiating her service, we were allowed to check in and we were given what was perhaps the worst table in the restaurant. It was next to the entrance, and the bar, and the cash register and the wait station. Honestly, in my humble opinion, there shouldn't be a table there. When we asked for another table the hostess, who was very young, spoke to a person who we later learned was one of the owners. He quite brusquely told her they "if they don't like they can eat outside". I told the young lady "never mind, we'll go somewhere else." She looked at the owner who made a hand gesture that suggested 'let them go, who cares.'
I later received a text from Resy asking me about my reservation. I replied that the restaurant had attempted to ruin our anniversary. A little while later I received a text telling me my reservation was cancelled. It was not cancelled, we left because the service was so blatantly rude. It was my intention to place a review on the Resy site stating this, but because the restaurant cancelled the reservation, I was unable to do this.
I asked Resy to 'un-cancel' my reservation and allow me to tell the people what happened; hopefully they will oblige. In the meantime I am sharing this experience with you, because behaviors are rarely out of context. In other words, if they treated me this way, it is likely that they have and will treat others this way.
It was quite obvious to me that the restaurant owner deemed me unworthy of being treated decently, ostensibly because I am neither a local nor (as far as he knew) wealthy.
Please consider boycotting 'The Feather and Wedge' with me to demonstrate our solidarity in the belief that no person has the right to discriminate against another based on their perception of that person's station. We don't live in a class based society, please help me prove that to 'The Feather and...
Read moreDelightful! We arrived around 6:30 for dinner and were seated at the very comfortable banquette, which wraps around the side of the space. The mood is tastefully casual - with artistic touches like antique fixtures giving off warm pools of light on the long granite bar, and period black and white photographs of local quarries. Our waitress brought that night’s menu, which she told us offers two or three options in each category that rotate on a daily basis. Although a handful of options seems limited when you might be accustomed to a longer menu, we found it hard to choose between the inventive starters, salads, and entrees. Our waitress encouraged us to try the Hubbard squash, which may have been my favorite dish of the evening. It took a little while for the appetizer to arrive, but when it did, it was beautifully plated and was a lovely exploration of autumn flavors - warm, buttery, nutty squash, charred mushrooms, and subtle but sharp cheese. The beet salad was an inventive blend of golden and purple beets tossed in an entirely unique cardamom yogurt dressing. Our entrees arrived in good time and were, again, perfectly presented. Our party had ordered one of each entree offered that night, a sirloin with scalloped potatoes, a penne with house made sausage, and flounder with olive beurre blanc and a shaved fennel salad. All were delicious - the sausage with a hot, savory blend of spices, beef well cooked, scalloped potatoes with that perfect crusted cheese, and the flounder broiled to a delicate perfection and balanced by the fresh citrus flavor of the shaved fennel salad. The desserts are worth coming for alone! The warm apple crisp was not too sweet and a hearty portion to share. The ginger quince upside down cake was moist and flavorful, again without being too sweet. We lingered after dinner, talking with other guests seated near us who wanted to know what we had ordered that looked so good! Overall, Feather & Wedge provides a beautiful dining experience and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our evening was clear proof they have are bringing out all the potential of the location, the very talented chef, Patrick Steele, and the team they’ve brought together. I’m looking forward to another dinner there as...
Read moreWe are transported Rockportians. However...... We come from the NYC area in the past. So, in order to review the much anticipated Feather and Wedge restaurant we would like to say the following: The decor was great; the bar offerings were great; the wine selection was limited but very good; the menu description was really fine (limited offerings at this beginning of their venture); there was a limited (limited is NOT bad) selection of apps, salads, mains and desserts. The limits, in my opinion, are a good idea given the fledging business. We ordered the beet salad, chicken liver pate, butternut squash soup, the flounder and the chicken thighs. The beet salad was true to beets (good). The chicken liver pate was OK --possibly too much liquor-- but needed seasoning. The squash soup was OK but not particularly delish (it didn't feel like "homemade" and should have been for 10$). The chicken thighs were OK but NOT NOT NOT special in any way. The flounder was tasteless, boring boring boring - fennel salad was fine but not anything to write home about (or Guy Fietti for that matter). The mains had basically little taste. OMG--- so sad and really sad in regard to the price. Rockport needs and WANTS an establishement that is more than just the plain. The waitstaff was really really good. The bartendress was great. The owners appeared committed but the FOOD has GOT to be better. Please. Please. Please. We can get mediocre in lots of establishements around the North Shore but we need FLAVOR and EXCITEMENT in our food. Please, please, please. We live here ALL year. We want to frequent this establishement for SO many reasons but will not pay the prices for boring, boring flavorless food. PLEASE!!!!! The place is gorgeous. Make the...
