Tomatillo Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Rockville

Deeply disappointing and frankly disturbing experience at this restaurant.

My friend and I stopped in for a quick lunch on a quiet Saturday afternoon. The place was nearly empty—just one other customer besides us. The food was extremely mediocre; I ordered the huevos rancheros, which were so poorly made that a five-year-old could’ve done better. But sadly, the food wasn’t the worst part of our visit.

A man, definitely someone who worked at this restaurant, kept coming in and out of the restaurant repeatedly, walking past our table each time, whispering random phrases. At first, we thought he might be on the phone and tried to ignore him. But by the fourth time, he stopped directly next to our table and attempted to start a conversation. His speech was slurred, and he appeared intoxicated—again, this was around noon.

My friend was visibly uncomfortable, but she tried to respond politely in an effort to make him leave. Instead, he asked irrelevant questions and even requested song suggestions for the jukebox. I named a random artist just to get rid of him, but he didn’t have money to use the jukebox and returned to hover around our table, continuing to bother us.

What’s most shocking is that the staff witnessed this entire interaction and did absolutely nothing. They could clearly see what was happening but made no effort to intervene or protect us. We eventually had to leave our half-eaten meal and exit the restaurant because we genuinely felt unsafe.

To make matters worse, we know the man was affiliated with the restaurant—possibly even a staff member—since he was moving in and out freely and without question, and eventually also walked to the back of the restaurant where the kitchen was

This experience was not only unpleasant, it was frightening. I was moments away from calling the police. I will never return here and strongly advise others to stay away. No one should feel unsafe or ignored...

During quarantine we picked up food. They had people drinking in the store hanging around. No one wore gloves...touching the food after it was cooked and the worst part no one in the store wore masks....literally not one person. I'll never be ordering from them again. This is a decent place to have live hand cooked authentic Mexican food. This is a small place looked at the corner of the market. The overall for quality is good. The potion size of the dish is large. They have menu in English and Spanish language separately. The cooks are kind enough to customize your meal based on your request.
