Seeing the good reviews of this place, I figured I'd give it a try. The restaurant shares a space with T-Swirl Crepes, which is a bit confusing when you first walk in.
To start, we ordered the combination platter. Our appetizer took 25 minutes to come out and the egg rolls were still frozen in the centre. Everything t else on the platter was purchased frozen, but fried/ reheated for serving. The dipping sauce was unidentifiable and flavourless. After another 10 minutes, the waitress brought us a new batch of egg rolls, which you could see they cut in half to fry to guarantee they were not frozen.
45 minutes after we were seated, 2/3 of our entrees came out. We ordered the Pho California and the Pho Volcano. Both were flavourless. It tasted like they used a pre made broth. We waited another 10 minutes for the 3rd entree to come out, the XO Gyudon Bowl. The meat was incredibly salty and was an odd cut. The cucumber slices were enormous and the corn was right out of a can.
We were not the only people disappointed with our meal. At the table next to us, the couple sent back their entrees and left, after waiting just as long for it to come out.
The total for the meal was $57. I would pick literally any other restaurant in the area to spend your money at. This place won't last long from what I...
Read moreEdit: five stars as promised. Thank you for the prompt response! After a recent visit, they have indeed diluted the cleaning ingredient so it no longer overwhelms the shop. Props to the owner for the responsiveness.
This place is fantastic. The pho was delicious, and the portions were great! There was only one problem: the staff started to clean the restaurant before closing. It was about 8:43 PM when they started to mop with extremely strong chemicals (bleach) about 10 feet from where we and other customers were eating.
This is poor etiquette. I get that the restaurant business is tiring; I worked in it for about four years. But at every restaurant, it was taught to us to NEVER begin cleaning near customers if the restaurant hours were coming to a close, especially mopping with chemicals.
If I can have reassurance from management that this will be corrected in the future, I am more than happy to 5 star. Everything up to those 10 minutes of smelling strong bleach mixing in my food was worthy of 5...
Read moreI recently visited XO Modern Pho & Grill in Rockville, MD, on a chilly winter day, and it was exactly what I needed to warm up and satisfy my cravings.
I started with their Vietnamese Coffee, which was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced—an absolute must-try for coffee lovers. Then came the Takoyaki—8 golden, crispy bites that were tender and flavorful on the inside.
The star of the meal was their Pho XO Big Horn. This bowl was packed with everything: eye-round, brisket, flank, fatty flank, tendon, and tripe, along with all the classic pho fixings like sprouts, jalapeños, basil, onions, cilantro, and lime. It was hearty, comforting, and absolutely hit the spot.
If you’re in the Rockville area and looking for some incredible pho and delicious Vietnamese dishes, XO Modern Pho & Grill is a must-visit....
