I have been excited to try this restaurant as it is very close to the apartment!
First, let's talk about the vibe. The 4 stars above are ALL the vibe and the ambiance. The Decor, the rooftop patio, the details with the little battery powered lights, the absolutely fabulous tables. All A+. The service was good, almost great, I think with a little more work they will get the service down up to a 5. Suggestions I would have. Host stand or other personnel at the entrance of outside as it's rather confusing on where to check in at. (The Host stand is inside, but you have to walk through the patio or the edge anyway, to get to the entrance.)
The Host situation was a little odd, and the GM made it feel even more awkward. We had made a reservation for that evening, and when we arrived, staff asked us about the reservation, and we explained that we would prefer an outdoor table. They went and checked on that, and in the meantime the GM showed up and instead of asking us if we had been helped, he attempted to show us to a indoor table, then there was a bit of going back and forth about where to take us, and we were left standing in the dining room. No harm, its a nice dining room.
The Menu is digital, which I suppose is the thing to do these days, but for a high end restaurant, I would personally like a paper menu. All the items are priced as a steakhouse so your sides are extra. We opted for the Ahi Tuna which isn't technically on the appetizer portion of menu, but was recommended by the server, Daniel. It was pretty good, I think it needs a little brightness in it's life. A bit flat.
For Dinner, I had the barbacoa, which is a large short rib bone, that has been braised. For me, it was just okay. It didn't have the depth of flavor that I'm used to for barbacoa, but it wasn't bad, but for $40.00 for one rib, I really expect it to be really good. It also was JUST the rib. It didn't come with any garnishes like the Cochinita Pibil does, and I was disappointed that I couldn't make myself a nice little barbacoa taco with some pickled onions, it would surely have made the experience top notch.
My dining partner had the Seafood Risotto, and also, it was good, not great. The Risotto was a bit "brothy" and no side plate to discard the mussel shells was offered.
We opted for dessert, because they sounded really amazing. The kitchen was out of the flan de elote (which I really wanted to try). Instead I had the Sopapilla Cheescake (Good, but the cinnamon garnish was overwhelming) and we also tried the Churros. The churros had been fried in the same batter as the corn tortillas, and were overwhelmingly flavored of corn tortillas. Was definitely not the highlight of the evening.
All that being said, we pointed these items out to the server, and he assured us that it would be relayed to the powers that be. We will definitely be back, as again, the rooftop setting, and the general vibe had us dreaming of our time on the...
Read moreI was at this restaurant with a group of five or six of us for my friend’s birthday dinner, and I’m honestly so disappointed—especially seeing how my friend was treated on what was supposed to be a special night for her. She had been to this restaurant multiple times before and always had a great experience, which is why she chose it for her celebration. At first, everything was perfect—the food was amazing, the ambiance was great, and we were all just enjoying the night.
About an hour in, a couple walked in, and the entire energy of the place changed. The girl clearly had a connection to the staff, including the manager, and from the moment they arrived, they wouldn’t stop staring at our table. They were whispering, pointing, making faces, and throwing us dirty looks the entire time. When we would take pictures, they would mock us and look over at us. To be placed in the middle of the restaurant, and TO BE ASKED TO TAKE PHOTOS FOR THE RESTAURANT (there staff came up and asked to take our photo). It was so blatant and uncomfortable. She kept making unnecessary gestures, like she had some strange issue with my friend, and on top of that, she was running up to the staff and manager laughing loudly. It was embarrassing to watch and completely killed the upscale vibe this restaurant is supposed to have.
Seeing my friend feel uncomfortable and disrespected on her birthday was honestly upsetting. She eventually called the manager over to address the situation, and instead of handling it professionally, he was sarcastic and dismissive. I personally was upset by the dismissing, and I even pointed out the behavior of the couple, and how it made her feel very uncomfortable. He even had the nerve to lie, claiming she didn’t work there when it was later confirmed that she actually does. The lack of professionalism was shocking.
No matter how good the food is, no one should have to deal with that kind of treatment, especially on a special occasion. I’m truly saddened to see my friend’s night ruined like that. This restaurant has completely lost our respect, and none of us will ever be back. If you’re looking for a classy, enjoyable dining experience, this is not the place.
Also I’m not sure who our server was but I do give him credit for being amazing the entire night, and helping us through...
Read moreI dined at Loma on 10/24. Our original reservation was for 3ppl at 5pm. Our meeting ran a bit later and called to make sure it was still ok if we came a little later. They had no problem accommodating us. When we arrived 20 min after our reservation, we were sat immediately and greeted by our server. There was approx 6ppl on the patio and about 10-15 ppl inside. The server came by a few times to check on us and by the 2nd time, we put in our drink order. She stopped by our table a 3rd time and we put in our appetizer order. Drinks hadn’t come yet. We received our appetizer but still no drinks. We ordered the queso and some rib eye bites. We dove in to the apps as we were hungry. By the time the 2nd person got into the queso dip, you had to cut the cheese in order to get a piece of it. Almost as if the cheese had cooled. The rib eye bites were not exciting and a bit over cooked. After our appetizer, we finally got our drinks. That is when we placed our order. One ordered the lemon salad, one ordered the house steak specialty and I ordered the enchiladas. We got our food. My client ordered the lemon salad. When she took a bite in to it, she mentioned how spicy it was. We were all taken aback to the word “spicy”. I too tried her salad and it was in fact, spicy. Along with a lasting heat. Seems like they doctored up the dressing and decided to add something that definitely did not compliment the salad. My boss ordered the house steak specialty but he received the house special of mahi mahi instead. He also ordered a glass of wine when we put in our entree order and had to remind the server of his wine. We honestly didn’t touch much of our entrees and certainly didn’t want to bring them home. The server apologized for the wait on our drinks and used the excuse “sorry, we had a rush of concert goers”. I dined there before a concert before and can attest that they were not as busy as that one concert.
I was super frustrated by suggesting this over Ruth Chris and a bit embarrassed by the food quality and speed of drinks. This was supposed to be a celebratory dinner and left much to be desired. I don’t foresee me dining there again nor...
