Great appearance, wonderful service, mediocre food.
The rooftop view of Rogers was nice. The ambiance was that of a very fancy diner--beautifully appointed with sleek lines, but loud and chaotic. Of course, our booth, like many, was between the bar and the open kitchen, so maybe blame this on the architect.
Our server was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. When our entrees were late, she brought us, unasked, two appetizers. If the food had lived up to her level, it would have been a fantastic evening. But alas. The steak tartar appetizer was very tasty, the best dish of the evening. The East Coast oyster was miniscule (the size of a collar button) and of imperceptible flavor.
We went to Oak for my son-in-law's birthday. The reservation person, the hostess, and the waitress all asked it we were celebrating anything and we told them. Absolutely nothing was done in recognition of the occasion. (Not that we needed it, but most restaurants would have brought him a token tasty in recognition of the occasion.)
The dinner salad was the most bitter I've ever had, although it was beautifully presented. My scallops were bloated and cooked poorly. Scallops have a delicate flavor and their dish suppressed that. The cauliflower florets served with it were good, as were the "table side" of roasted Brussels sprouts, both competently prepared.
I tasted my wife's steak frites. Again, beautifully presented but the flavor of the medium rare steak was just okay. The French fries were tasty, but nothing special. My daughter ordered the same dish done medium, and son-in-law medium well. There was no perceptible difference in the doneness of the three orders.
The chocolate cake was seven layers of dense and moist cake with a perfect ganache. Outstanding. The house-made chocolate ice cream was among the best I've ever had, extremely thick and smooth with a dense chocolate flavor. Oak does do dessert well.
At $25 a plate, this would have been a decent meal. At $75 a plate (one beer and a Pellegrino were the only drinks), it was a huge...
Read moreFood was phenomenal, especially for the area. Anywhere that can nail a massive pork chop at medium and itâs still juicy, gets top marks in my book.
The steak menu itself is absurdly priced but I can imagine they are executed wonderfully. And well itâs 2025 so good beef comes at mortgage rates.
My wife had their steak frites (outside of their normal steak menu) and it was a perfectly executed country French cuisine take on pom frites and bavette.
Cocktails were 50/50. The Hendrix and Cran my wife ordered was very sweet for some reason. My dessert menu White Russian was very good albeit I didnât taste the chicory liquor they listed. That said, the wine was superb and well curated. Moreover, the mocktails were very delicious.
Service was absolutely top notch. Itâs honestly been a few years since I had front of house service, from hostess to waitress, to bar staff and back staff pay so much attention and understand pacing of a meal so well. Bravo. My water glass never emptied. Top marks.
Dining outside was fantastic and fun. Especially considering we stayed on site, it just allowed for an overall carefree experience and atmosphere.
My wife and I had a fun time. The only truly missed mark was we were given rolls instead of the popovers we ordered, but I didnât feel like spoiling the experience or rapport with our waitress. Although I wonder what the popovers would have tasted like!
For a place that has been open only a couple months, this restaurant is running quite smoothly.
A note to the manager. Install doors for the outside dining which allow your staff to enter and exit without handles, they look terrified coming in and out.
Either way, If we are ever back in the hotel, we...
Read moreWe were celebrating a special milestone, and my husband picked this restaurant based on coworker recommendations. I usually check reviews, but I trusted him and was genuinely excited. As a chef with fine dining experience, my expectations are highâespecially since dining out is a treat for us.
We arrived at 6:15pm. The pork belly appetizer was too fatty to eat, and the garnish was just plain cuties. After placing our order, we waited over an hour and a half. With kids in tow and my husband coming straight from work, it was frustrating. When the food finally arrived, the steak was cold, the bone marrow bread pudding was just okay and the seafood tower was not so exciting. The mac and cheese was the only highlight.
Dessert was also delayed â close to 10:00pm Andrew said they were just making the ice-cream. Ice cream wasnât ready, and when it came, it was warm and mushy. Suri was kind and offered it on the house, which we appreciated, but we werenât there for freebiesâwe wanted a great experience.
Sadly, this was the second steakhouse in town that missed the mark. The view was of construction site, the service was super slow, and the ambiance underwhelming. Weâve been loyal to a national steakhouse chain for 19 years and rarely had issues. This just didnât compare. We may return for the mac and cheese, but weâll...
