Three strikes and you’re out. Buyer beware. Don’t order for pick-up. Food is best when eating at the restaurant.
I was excited to have this restaurant in my neighborhood when it first opened. My boyfriend and I ate there in person a few times. Our waitress was wonderful and the food delicious. We had birria tacos, chicharrones, chips, salsa and the equivalent of what other Mexican restaurants serve as a “Steven’s Special” among other things (including adult beverages.)
Unfortunately, I’ve had terrible experiences with carryout. The first time I ordered carryout, I ordered the chicharrones, tortillas, chips and salsa. When I got home, I found that the chicharrones were not in my bag. I called the restaurant and spoke with, I believe her name was Anna (she identified herself as a manager.). She told me she was going to refund that portion of my order back to my bank card and to allow several days for the credit to appear. Several days later, it had not been credited to my account. I called the restaurant and spoke with Anna again. She told me I needed to allow more time for the refund to post. I ended up contacting my bank to file a dispute at this point, as 10 business days had passed. My bank felt enough time had passed and they ended up crediting the funds to my account.
Today, I ordered the chicharrones as a pick-up order. The price increased from $8.00 to $12.00. (I guess they are a popular item.) When I ate these in the restaurant, they were plentiful, large, meaty pieces. There were 6 pieces to the order. That’s NOT what I got today. What I received was 4 small, dried out chunks of shoe leather. Seriously. They were overcooked to the point where they were not edible. Have you ever seen that scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation where the family is sitting around the dinner table attempting to eat the overdone, dried out turkey??? I swear, what I received today was just like that. No joke. (The photo I’ve attached is what they looked like after I broke them apart. I couldn’t tell if they were meat or bone and didn’t want to risk breaking a tooth on them. They were VERY hard.)
I know things can happen every now and then but this is the third time in a row this restaurant has struck out with me. I didn’t bother trying to call them about the issue tonight. If they truly cared, they wouldn’t have attempted to serve me shards of hard leather disguised as chicharrones. They went into the trash and I’m out $14 and some change (after tax.)
I won’t ever order from them again as a pick-up order. Thankfully, there are other restaurants in the area where I can take my business.
And you...
Read moreZero stars if I could. I’ve been here once and the food was great and I was absolutely sure that we found a fantastic spot, until I came back tonight and asked for a table for 3 and I was told there were no tables. There were 3 tables and several booths open. I assumed there was a private party or a shortage of staff (which is understandable if so) but as I was getting ready to leave, another group of people came in and were sat. I walked back in to inquire why we were turned away, and she told me that “oooh the bar area is open now, it wasn’t open earlier.”. So the bar that I saw 2 minutes ago with people there was closed but now open? I’m sitting here as I type this review and 8 people walked in and were provided service. Extremely disappointing. I understand you don’t have to provide service for all, but when I tip 30% and I’m utterly polite to staff, I’m disappointed. I waited tables for 8 years so I understand how grueling it is. I’m sure my money doesn’t matter and the owners probably will not care, but I wouldn’t spend a dime no matter how great the food is. Service matters. Treatment of customers matter. I’m not even trying to deter the customers, but I’m just sharing my experience with the hope they train their staff better.
Edited to say **thank you for the response, which I would’ve appreciated more if I didn’t try to make reservations online (which there isn’t a link to do so) anddd my son’s girlfriend called to check (just in case the website hadn’t updated) and she was told you all don’t take reservations and it’s first come first serve, it’s why we walked in and I didn’t mention reservations in the original...
Read moreWe were so excited to try this place and it was a terrible experience. The service was awful, it took us forever to get our water, apps, drinks…everything. We ordered chips and they literally took 25 minutes. Then they brought queso instead of salsa. It took another 10 to get our salsa. It was not busy during our visit. Two of the people with us ordered the 15 tacos, listed in the menu as recommended for 2-3 to share. The tacos came with one small container of each condiment. When we asked for additional diced onions and sour cream, they charged us on the final bill. We had 4 adults and 2 children. The children ordered Stephen special (Sarai special) on their menu. It didn’t come with tortillas so we asked for them. That also showed up as an up charge on our bill. The kicker- after all the nickel and dime-ing on up charges, they snuck in a “LARGE GROUP” 20% tip built in to our bill. We just had him split the bill down the middle to make it easier for him. It was electronic and not a paper copy so we didn’t realize he built in a 20% tip for himself (and asked for an additional tip on top of that) until we got the emailed receipt. This place was a huge disappointment and we will not be back. Sad, because the food was good; the experience...
