This used to be my favorite Mexican food restaurant in NWA/SWM. But, is no longer, after yesterday!
They have a new menu since the last time I was there a few months ago. They've taken away a lot of the combination dishes, and probably several other items they had in the older menu.
I almost always order the same combination at every Mexican food restaurant I eat at. Chile relleno, bean burrito, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. On very rare occasion, I might order something different.
This combination used to be one of the many combination plates available on their old menu.
But, when I mentioned this to the waitress, she ATTEMPTED TO make me feel stupid, and told me they had never offered that combination.
I ordered the same items again, despite them no longer being offered as a combination plate.
Another detail I ALWAYS mention when I order is "no lettuce, no tomato, and no guacamole". (I won't eat those items on any food!)
When she brought our order, the relleno, the burrito, and the enchiladas were on three separate plates, and they had put two large dollops of guacamole, of which I had specifically asked them to leave off!
Not being a "chronic complainer" like some people, I chose to say nothing about the way it was served, and just scoop the guac off of the plate.
Picking up my fork to cut into, and start eating, I found that the relleno was too HARD to cut! I picked up the knife to cut it. It was so hard, that even the knife wouldn't cut it, even using a sawing motion with the knife!
I then started to cut the enchilada, with the same result!
At this point, I was so disgusted at the entire situation (waitress attempting to make me feel stupid, presentation of order, hard food that couldn't even be cut, etc.), I set all the plates to the side, and had lost my appetite!
A few minutes later, the waitress returned to the table, asking if everything was alright.
I promptly told her "no!", and told her why. I then told her to take all of my order, and take it off of our ticket, as I had no intention of paying for the trash!
Several years ago, after our first visit to Maria's, I provided a very positive Google review of this restaurant, giving tremendous compliments to them for the service, environment, quality of the food, and the wide variety of menu items available.
However, after the experience I had at yesterday's visit, I have no intention of ever returning to Maria's, and would not recommend them for my dog, let...
Read moreWe've been dining at Maria's for nearly two decades, but our experiences have been inconsistent. Two years ago, I upgraded my review from three to five stars due to a fantastic visit. Unfortunately, our latest visit was disappointing, leading me to rate it two stars. The restaurant's cleanliness earned it an extra star, preventing a one-star review.
We visited to celebrate a special occasion with my parents, who arrived early and were served chips with a single bowl of salsa. Upon our arrival, the waitress promptly took our drink orders, including three frozen strawberry margaritas, and our food orders. However, we waited excessively long, sharing that one small bowl of salsa among four people. We also ordered queso that never arrived.
Two of our party ordered taco salads, which arrived first but were disappointing—both found the taste lackluster and the edible bowls stale. The other two entrees, including my chimichanga, arrived after the first two had finished eating. My order was incorrect, and even after sending it back, it was still wrong. Hungry, I chose not to send it back again. The margaritas, which we nearly canceled due to the delay, arrived on the rocks instead of frozen, without sugared rims, and were mediocre in taste. One member of our party enjoyed their enchiladas, but my chimichanga was just okay, likely due to the ignored order instructions.
Despite the service industry's staffing challenges, our waitress confirmed they were fully staffed. She was pleasant, so I left a tip, but the overall experience was lackluster. With many better Mexican restaurant options available, we likely won’t return...
Read moreI came in for dinner with my husband and sister and the only thing good I have to say is my waiter, when she was around, was friendly. When we get our food about 1/4 into my shrimp chimichanga I start to feel sick. I have my husband taste it and he agrees it tastes off. I flagged down my waiter and she came over, I informed her about my food, she asked me if I wanted something different so I asked if I could get the same thing just with chicken. The owner came out and before I could say anything he kept telling me “I don’t serve bad shrimp,” I tried to explain to him I didn’t think it was deliberate but he just spoke over me. It wasn’t until my husband said “if my wife saids it’s bad then it’s bad, she’s a chef” that he wouldnt even let the table get a word in. Then they wanted to charge me for a meal that I couldn’t eat. I was ok paying for the chicken chimichanga but not the shrimp as well. I told the waiter that I wasn’t paying for the shrimp chimichanga and she informed me she would have to get manger approval to take it off. The owner was in house and had an opportunity to make this right but decided it was better to lose a customer and their family that dines there a few times a month. So in all fairness we have never had an issue before but the one time we did it was handled poorly, so if you want to eat here go ahead just hope there isn’t a problem. I noticed the owner likes to respond to the reviews seeing as how I already tried to talk to you but you were more interested in what my husband had to say you have lost consistent customers. Enjoy the rest of your...
