They had a wine tasting event here and I decided to attend. Let me say, it was absolutely fabulous! Now, I will say it got off to a rocky start, but once the food started coming out, it more than made up for this. The menu was meticulously crafted for the evening where each plate was carefully matched with a selected wine. The first plate was an oyster with smoked trout salmon caviar and creme fraiche. This was a great palette opener you started the evening and the only thing missing in this dish was fresh herbs in the oyster. Had small greenery been added, it would have elevated that oyster. The next dish was halibut with mashed potatoes and tomatoes in a buerre blanc sauce which was outstanding! This was by far my favorite plate of the evening. Between the perfectly cooked fish and scrumptious sauce with tomatoes, every bite on that plate ate beautifully. The next dish was hot chicken breast with blue cheese and a carrot and celery slaw. Now me, this dish was a misrepresentation of hot chicken because the sauce was non existent on the plate! I mean a microscopic dash of hot sauce on chicken doesn't necessarily mean it's hot chicken! Hot chicken should be smothered in the sauce or more should have been added to coat the chicken. Now if more of that sauce was on the chicken, it would have been more authentic, but it did taste good. I found that slaw to be a surprise, and it was quite refreshing and crispy. A beef dish came out next over red lentils, confit pearl onions and a red eye demi sauce. As I'm already full by this point, I only ate enough to get a taste and it was delicious! There wasn't much meat on the plate, which one would expect with a beef dish, but it was enough to sample. The beef was prepared medium rare and was cooked perfectly. That red eye demi was flavorful and only accentuated the small 2 pieces of beef. The lentils were cooked perfectly as well and I actually enjoyed those. If I wasn't so full, I would have eaten more of those! Never would have thought to pair lentils with steak, but this nice surprise worked! The dessert was a sticky toffee pudding which was excellent and ended up being the 2nd plate I cleared. The dates and coffee caramel flavor was truly divine! Now that pudding may have been slightly over, but because the flavors all paired well together, and with the allspice truly bringing that dish together, I ate all my dessert! This restaurant really surprised me and I truly had a magnificent evening. It may be a drive, but between the remarkable dishes and how this specially crafted menu paired well with each selected wine, the thoughtfulness and attentiveness to details is what stood out for me. I can appreciate this as a foodie and I must say, I will drive back here any day, anytime for this...
Read moreWhere do l start . I made a reservation on the 23rd of October for the 25th of October around 5:30. I told the man l spoke to it could be a little bit later because my husband was in the medical field . He said that would be fine and asked for our number, and l gave it. My husband would never not see a patient because they are late because they are parapapaligices depending on rides. So we show up at 6:28 and were told our table was given away. Why didn't they call? Why ask your number if you weren't going to call. Isn't that proticall?? We had a very special couple with us and had been here many times before and we're looking forward to them having a wonderful experience. We'll they told us we could sit down stairs. My husband had an exhausting day and said fine. Where do l start, Bugs everywhere, flies everywhere, darting for us, doors open, bugs everywhere. I saw the flies on the windows before we were even sitted.. There was another family seated next to us that were also swatting off the fries, but the doors still wide open. We placed our order 40 minutes before that couple came in and still had know food and they now had there's. Finally our food comes, we are served, the server disappeared ,,, normally in a desent restaurant the server will return within 3 minutes to see if everything is okay. Well our server disappeared. My husband's veal was not cooked, it was raw, our other friend had red snapper that was not cooked. The server didn't return !!! I finally got up because the bugs were actually darting for me and one of the bugs had landed in my wine that l paid 11 dollars for. What a nightmare and such an embarrassing moment. My husband lived here and we used to love to go here. My children still live here, but you have become an embarrassing and humiliating...
Read moreLa Scala is simply the best italian and fine dining establishment in Rome, GA. The service is impeccable among the servers and bartenders. Overall, as for a customer experience, this place is absolutely amazing.
My experience there as a server, however, left a lot to be desired. The occupation of serving comes with its own inherent difficulties, but to work in La Scala was a complete nightmare. The other servers within the restaurant are all superior and truly do make an effort to be a team, and the problem within the restaurant does not lay with them. The managers are the only thing that serves as a problem. The General Manager of La Scala is a complete hot head. With the amount of business that La Scala does on a weekly basis, it would be easy to understand why tensions can easily become strained. However, the General Manager of La Scala (Kenny Tribble) will take the degree of severity when working with the servers to a completely unneeded extent. Kenny would get to the point of yelling at us servers in our face in front of customers as well as cursing. The experience with Kenny made my tenure at La Scala an unpleasant one as Kenny is overly temperamental. The Head Chef at La Scala, Anthony, is an amazing chef. He runs a tight ship in the kitchen, but is also wont to hostility. If things are not Anthony's way, then there is obviously going to be a big problem. I am not the best server in the world, nor did I claim to be, but the amount of hostility that is received at La Scala as an employee makes this the kind of job for only the most stoic of people. Kenny and Anthony are good people, and it is obvious that they can become burdened by their jobs, but the amount of anger and hostility that follows the employees of La Scala really downplays the...
