Service -
Our server Melany was fantastic! She was super friendly, and so on our refills that we never did use the self-serve refill station (I love that they have this option however). We were instantly greeted with chips and salsa, and given menus. Our drinks came out super quickly and Melany was very helpful with ordering and repeated our order back to us to ensure accuracy!
Food -
*Overall the food was really pretty delicious, as I expected it would be given previous dining experiences at the original location. We arrived at 11:30am-ish and ordered off of the lunch menu. I must say that the prices were VERY reasonable and I was pleasantly surprised!
*chips and salsa - chips have a great texture and are sturdy enough to support scooping the hearty salsa. Their salsa has the typical expectations of a good salsa consistency, but with the freshness of pico. (Also refills are free)
L#9 chimichanga with rice and beans
The rice is fluffy and really well seasoned. The beans were creamy and smooth and topped with cheese. Both were excellent! The chimichanga had a fried flaky tortilla with good chew and texture. The steak was diced but had great flavor. The rice inside the chimichanga however, was a bit too much given that it was also served with a side of rice.
L#11 tamales with rice and beans.
The tamales contained shredded but also well seasoned meats. I got one pork and one chicken. The pork had a nice slow heat with a smoky flavor while the chicken was more moist and definitely much more spicy (but a good spicy). The actual tamale dough though was loaded in way too thick. It was rubbery and it struggled to retain moisture. This also left it very cakey / chewy and the flavor of the flour itself overwhelmed the well seasoned meats when eaten together.
Atmosphere -
The inside decor is a mixed industrial/ rustic design. The community tables are pretty cool too and the natural light brightens the whole space. The outside patio area has a picnic vibe with bright yellow umbrellas. It's pretty close to the road however so it's pretty loud.
*Accessibility -
The inside and outside are all one level. There are two individual bathrooms and the one that I used was definitely spacious enough for a wheelchair. Just take caution that the bathrooms are located down a...
Read moreEDIT to clarify after owner response: there is definitely no mistake, the order was for a chimichanga with beef. When the carryout order was brought home, my HUSBAND cut into it to eat it and discovered that it was full of just rice and beans with absolutely no meat in it. When he called the establishment to inform them of the mistake, once he got all the way back to Fruitport with it, he was informed that there was nothing they could do about it, that if the order was wrong he should have taken care of it before he pulled out of the parking lot. My question to the owner is how is he supposed to know that the order is wrong until he gets home and cuts into his chimichanga? The only way to do that would be to cut into it before he leaves the parking lot. Nobody does that. That is poor customer service and lack of accountability for a mistake made by your restaurant. And that is why he is promptly told them that he will never return. All they had to do is apologize and try to make it right in some way. They didn't do that. They just said there was nothing they could do about it because he left without making sure the order was correct.
We will never return. At least not to the Muskegon location. Husband picked up a carryout order. There was an item missing from our order, but the biggest issue was my husband ordered a chimichanga dinner with ground beef. Got all the way home and started eating it to discover that it was stuffed with refried beans and a ton of rice. No meat whatsoever. He called to complain about it, and the person he spoke to said that if he didn't come back before he left the parking lot with his order there was nothing they would do about it. How many people do you know that get a carry-out order and cut into their chimichanga, burrito, etc before they drive home with it? Absolutely ridiculous. Even if their food was fantastic, they have enough excellent competition in Muskegon that they cannot afford crappy customer service like that when they made the mistake. They could have made it right. It was an honest mistake. But their failure to offer to correct their mistake is an excusable. For that reason alone, we will choose someplace else over this place every single time...
Read moreI didn't want to do this but after 3 messed up orders, I feel they need to know what's going on and how people feel.
I'll try to keep this short.
Then I read several reviews and Facebook posts talking about people getting their orders screwed up.
I gave them another try and after verifying my order before pulling up to the window, it was still incorrectly made with cilantro. 🤢
I gave them another try today and I brought my son with me. I got a steak and a pork taco. I also ordered a ground beef taco with only cheese for my son that does not like lettuce for some reason. After having her repeat my order to me over the speaker, I realized she ordered the first two tacos incorrectly. So I corrected her and had her repeat the entire order to me again. Everything sounded fine and we pulled up to the second window to pay. Once I got home I realized there was a bunch of lettuce in my son's taco. While he was crying, I was trying to pick out all the lettuce and tell him it would be okay and it would be yummy once I removed the lettuce. Not a big deal for me, but it was for him. And after verifying my order twice at the speaker, I was hoping they would get it right.
I'll try again next week and update my review. Hopefully things will...
