El Dorado is the place where I can honestly say I ate the most delicious enchilada I have ever had the good fortune to devour. It can't be described with words, you really just have to taste it! I don't know the cook's name, but I told the server for my table to let the cook know how appreciative I was of the fine food. It was delicious the whole way through... starting with a large bowl of warm, crispy tortilla chips so flavorful on their own, but with the homemade salsa it was instant joy right from the start- brought to the table within 20 seconds of being seated by a very pleasant and knowledgeable server who could not have been more attentive but not intrusive, even though the place was fairly full with customers. Generally when a restaurant wins me over with the chips and salsa, I know good things await, and they sure did. Beans and rice were perfectly cooked, no burnt, dried beans or hard kernels of rice, it was all steaming, with a full flavor to each. No bland-bland beans here, folks. Then the main event, and I had the enchilada-tamale entrée. Both were fabulous. Washed down with a glass of pure Oregon ice water and a slice of lime from a pitcher that stayed full and with plenty of fresh ice.... yum. If you're in Roseburg and feel like treating yourself, head for...
Read moreFirst time I ate here, I had chicken carnitas. It was very bland, not something you expect at all ever, from an authentic mexican restaurant. It had a weird gelatinous light colored gravy like sauce with it. After looking at the menu again, I realized it didn't specify the kind of sauce, so i thought, "my mistake for not paying closer attention to the description." My boyfriend had pollo mole and it was delicious, however. Fast forward to tonight, I ordered (through door dash) arroz con pollo. The description specified a "special sauce with chicken breast, red bell peppers, mushrooms and onions with cheese." It was LITERALLY the same dish as the carnitas over maybe 1/4 cup of rice. No flavor and the "special sauce" was the equivalent of the fat rendered from cooking the chicken, probably with a bit of oil and cornstarch mixed in - weird and gelatinous AGAIN. I also ordered corn tortillas and recieved flour. There were maybe 3 halves of mushrooms (a total of 1 1/2 mushrooms) and about 4 strips of red pepper and a TON of green peppers, which was NOT in the description of the dish. Not sure why the food can't match what the menu describes. Why even bother, if it's going to be...
Read moreThis is a small place with limited parking, but they are doing some great authentic food.
A small warning is that the refried beans are made with lard, so avoid them if vegitarian or not eating pork.
They were more than happy tonbring out some pinto beans for my vegitarian wife. I tried them and found they were quite flavorful.
I had the chicken mole. At first I tried just the liquid sauce with the chicken, and found it to be OK. Then I tried it with the onions they use in it and it really fleshed out the flavor.
The refried beans were creamy without being too heavy. The rice was flavorful and bright.
My kid enjoyed the shrimp enchiladas and while eating the leftovers, I found that they were good even reheated.
Wife had the vegitarian nachos. Her only complaint was the small amount of cheese used, but said the rest of the topping were plentiful and tasty.
Overall, we are glad to have found a good Mexican spot...
