Sakura Sushi — Restaurant in Roseburg

We had on good experience the first time we tried Sakura that we thought we'd stop since we were going by tonight. We had a chirashi ($32.95) and a sashimi sampler ($17.95). The chirashi was good but not exceptional. The sashimi sampler was better tasting and a better deal. 4 stars

Sad to say, tonight was a totally different experience. I was hungry for something more than sushi. We ordered one teriyaki donburi and one bento with chicken teriyaki. We also ordered a shrimp & vegetable tempura. The tempura was very good-lots of vegetables. The menu shows chicken with grill marks in a dark sauce. What we got was a pile of chicken warmed up in a light brown sauce. There was no grill marks or even marks like it was sautéed in a pan. The sauce was not what I think of as teriyaki and not as flavorful. The California roll in the bento tasted like it was old krab (fake crab) and was chopped, like in a spicy roll-so it was certainly not a Cali roll. The salad in the bento had RANCH dressing-the last thing I expect in a Japanese/Sushi restaurant. I don't happen to like ranch-so when I mentioned the California roll tastes bad and I didn't care for ranch dressing, I was told they served the California roll all day and no one else complained and I was brought a bowl of plain salad greens with no dressing. 1 star

It's sad when a restaurant doesn't take a customers comments seriously (I wouldn't even call it a complaint). For the cost of 4 pieces of roll, they lost customers. And, they definitely need to have a carrot-ginger salad dressing or something more fitting a sushi restaurant. Maybe ranch is requested often but there definitely needs to be something better. I hope they improve because it can be a decent place

I don't understand why this place has so many stars... I was so excited to see another sushi restaurant moved into Roseburg. I initially came here during their first week open. I was bummed that all the sushi rolls had only imitation crab with no way to tell the difference on the menu. We waited for over two hours before we got our food. I figured I would give it another shot after being established.

I ordered a spider roll and it was filled to the brim with imitation krab. Traditionally this roll is a safe bet in a sushi restaurant with fake krab on the menu. All of their menu items are fake krab, but there is no differentiation on their menu. To me this feels dishonest. I have eaten in over a hundred sushi restaurants all over the country and thought I would be safe not getting imitation krab in a soft shell crab roll. It's Monday night, and most restaurants in Roseburg are closed. I ordered take out within 20 minutes of closing. This can be the time to expect sub-par service and quality. But this simple take out order is one of my top 3 sushi orders away from home. I travel a lot of the PNW including Seattle, Portland, and all the coastal cities. I ordered Vegetable Tempura, Peach Blossom and Tiger rolls. It was a great combination of flavors and textures. The peach blossom 8 pc roll with salmon and avocado inside, ahi on top, with a generous coat of tobiko. The Tiger Roll was stuffed with soft shell crab, avocado, unagi sauce, and yes imatation crab which was fine because this was a double wide roll with enough of both.
