I decided to try this restaurant on a weekday for lunch with a friend. I was a bit disappointed. I will start with the positives. The restaurant was well-decorated. The food was tasty. Unfortunately, there were many other issues. The food, while tasty, was not a great portion size. I ordered the shrimp creole and there were ONLY 4 pieces of shrimp. It came with a mini-salad, plantains, and I chose black rice for my rice side. It was a $20 meal with not much of what would make the meal cost a bit more (the shrimp). FOUR pieces are unacceptable at that price. My friend had chicken creole and her portion size was fine. The sides were the same as mine, but more protein on her plate. Her meal cost the same amount as mine. The service was not good either and though I had read that in a review, I wasn't sure if it was an impatient customer at a busy time or what. We walked into an empty restaurant, we were not greeted. I said, "Thank You." a couple of different times when items were brought to the table with no response. We waited a while for our food and saw someone come in and place a to-go order. They spoke with our server (I assume to place their order) and waited. They left with their food before we got our meal. The young lady eventually brought out our food and did not come back to check on us at all. When she finally came to our table, she came with the bill in her hand and placed it on the table. This service is completely unacceptable. Not smiling or being friendly is one thing, but completely neglecting the ONLY two people in the restaurant during what was clearly not a busy time (about 2 hours after opening). It was not a pleasant lunch at all and not even the food was enough to make me want to come back and deal with awful service. A better portion size might have made me consider doing take-out, but as mentioned it was not...
Read moreI came here again because my first time, everything was on point so I didn’t mind driving from Elizabeth to Roselle. I was happy to see a Haitian restaurant with good customer service. So this Haitian here was proud!!! Fast forward to today! I spent 64.00 and was disappointed. I ordered: griot with rice and beans: Tasso with BLK rice and macaroni au gratin. Went to pick up my order they didn’t say they didn’t have any more macaroni. The portion size of the Tasso was small so they put some salad next to it to make it look full. Why would you put the meat and salad in the same container? Umm they ran out of rice and beans. Failed to mention that, when I brought it up to the waitress attention. She said we put two order of black rice to replace the rice and beans. I advised, usually the restaurant is supposed to ask the customer if they would like a substitute. And because I saw refunds on cards are not done properly, another worker talked me into getting the Haitian meatballs. Wasn’t bad but pricey for what was given. Little burnt. Overall I don’t think imma go out my way to support. The young lady didn’t say hi or nothing when I walked in. She never acknowledged me standing there I had to say something to her first. Which is sad, I was so happy to finally find a Haitian restaurant I can support! But that customer service and service was...
Read moreI recently ordered chicken fritay for take-out. I was excited to see their recent opening of their second restaurant. This venue has a better ambience and decor than their other location.
In regards to my food, I initially placed my order over the phone and thought it would be ready upon pick up. However when I arrived, I had to wait an additional 20+ minutes for my food. Although the woman who works there (I'm assuming she's the owner) was nice to me and was apologetic about the wait. When I arrived home, I regretted not opening up my platter of Fritay at the restaurant. Once I opened the food, I was in shock to discover that there were only a few pieces of chicken, akra, and plaintains. Any order of Fritay that I've ordered at a Haitian restaurant usually comes with a decent or large portion of the food. I paid $20 for a few measly pieces of food. To make matters worse, the Akra was burnt and there was no marinade that was included in the Fritay.
I was shocked at this experience because in the past, I've dined in or ordered take out at their other location in Maplewood. Such a disappointing experience that has me second guessing if I...
