I was searching for some place I hadn't been before, definitely with a patio so that I could take my dog, preferably not a chain.
First thing I want to say is that I was very pleased with the one thing that is the most important to me, service, and I will be back. The food not so much, which I will explain, but I have learned my lesson on that for the next time.
I should not have ordered the fried lobster tail, for reasons I should have known and reasons I discovered later. Reason I should have known is it isn't a particularly fancy restaurant and I should have kept my bill down the first time I tried it and not have expected anything fancy like a lobster tail. Reason I discovered later, they give you pretty flimsy plastic ware rather than actual silverware, and the fork and knife were too flimsy to cut the lobster. Maybe you were supposed to pick it up and eat it, but I would have had to wait quite a while for it to cool down. Reason I discovered later, the bit I managed to eat really wasn't very good. Maybe it was the lobster itself and maybe it was that lobster isn't meant to be fried. Oh well, lesson learned. Final reason I discovered later, my bill for that lobster tail was between a quarter and a third higher than what was shown on the menu. That took it out of the realm of an impulse purchase, which is what it was to me when I ordered it.
On the other hand, the turmeric rice and portobello mushroom was delicious. I just wish there had been more mushroom. I must admit to jumping to the conclusion that it was going to be a Portobello steak with a side of rice, which is what I actually wanted. It was way more than I could eat, and I regretfully left what I didn't eat there as I know from experience that any leftovers I take home will eventually just get thrown out. Someday I'll go there with a friend and we can split it.
They appear to have a full bar, and next time I go with just myself and my dog I think I'll have the smallest little appetizer I can find on the menu and an adult beverage. That would be more my speed. As I said, the food choices were my own fault.
They bothered to put down AstroTurf on the patio and to put a sunshade above it, which was very nice. It has a stunning view of the parking lot, but if you look up over the buildings, it also has a stunning view of the clouds, which, as you no doubt know, can be spectacular around here.
The music wasn't to my taste, but it seemed to be pretty middle of the road for its genre and not too loud, so I didn't mind it.
I'd really rather not eat with plastic and out of carry-out containers, but for a non-chain restaurant I'll...

Read moreMy first time at Mamie G's. I just so happened to run across this restaurant as I browsed the internet for food near me. 1st when I walked in the music was poppin. And a group of ladies at bar was vibing on lunch time. And because of the people person I am, i spoke to them and they were lovely. I can tell they've been here before because of how they were enjoying each other and the great vibes with bartender. By the way, The bartender was pleasant and patient. I ordered shrimp and fries that came with a soda. I just happened to look at time and realized I was gonna have to cancel my order as much as I was hungry and didn't want to due to me having to be back at work. I didn't realize the ladies ordered food prior to me. So the cook was understanding and patient with me but before canceling fully one of the ladies told me to tell bartender (sorry don't know names) said go head get your order we can wait. I was very appreciative of that woman for her kindness and the cook patience and customer service towards me. Food was great by the way and I will ge back....
