Okay, so I travel all over the country and I make a point to try barbeque restaurants everywhere I go because I have a YouTube channel on barbeque (TonyTonyBBQ), I'm grateful for my 26k subscribers and over 3.5m views, and I enjoy expanding my barbeque knowledge. I have to say that great barbeque is hard to come by in California. Back Forty Texas BBQ in Roseville freaking NAILS IT! Honesty, best barbeque I've had from a California restaurant, and easily competes with some incredible barbeque I've had in Texas. I had the Texas Trinity (pork ribs, chicken, brisket) and our awesome server made the great suggestion of adding a beef rib, because I told him I was hoping to see a beef rib and pork rib combo. My favorite was the beef rib! I was able to identify from the flavor of the meat that they burn Oak, and it was fantastic. I love that it had a natural smokey, slightly spicy, oak wood flavor, and that it wasn't overly smokey. Nearly every place I try, the meat tastes like it's been drug through an ash try, with a bitter dirty smoke flavor. This place knows how to run the fire correctly! Not only was the flavor on point, everything was tender, not dried out, perfectly cooked. I've never written a review on a barbeque restaurant in California, because if I don't have something great to say, I just won't say anything. Service, atmosphere, parking, cleanliness, the staff, the owner and especially the barbeque... EXCELLENT. Oh, and by the way, EXTREMELY REASONABLE prices. I've seen some ridiculous prices at other restaurants that aren't anywhere nearly as good, places that make you walk up to a counter to place your order like you're at a Taco Bell, never visit your table to check on you or refill a drink and still expect a tip. Back Forty Texas BBQ in Roseville is an actual restaurant, and service was excellent. Thank you! Sorry, no photos. I was too excited and busy enjoying my food. Treat yourself go see for yourself. Also, I never told anyone that I know a bit about barbeque, they just treat everyone special. Great place for solo dining, couples dining, family dining and even large groups. I could go on... I'm just really excited that I found this place! Okay......
Read moreWe came here for an early 4 pm Father’s Day dinner because it’s a favorite of my parents. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark. Several items were forgotten or incorrect — missing drinks, sides, dressing, and my sandwich came without the gravy it was supposed to have on it according to the menu description. We had to flag down servers multiple times to fix missing items and refills were slow to come.
When the bill arrived we looked it over and as it was being signed the owner came over asking us to leave for waiting customers. When we explained we’d spent a lot of time waiting for our food and missing items. She didn't seem to care she just cared about us leaving. We told her we just received the bill she said the server told her otherwise, which felt dismissive. My Dad just starred at her in shock since she was literally standing in front of the bill being signed complaining that we have had it for a while. We waited longer for missing items we ordered then they waited for the bill to be signed.
The food was OK. Mac and cheese seemed soggy. Ribs looked good. My husband enjoyed them. They give large portions. Has the BBQ smell at the restaurant and after I got home I still smelled like the restaurant.
Also worth noting — one of the emergency exits was blocked by a table and when customers are sitting at the table it was even more blocked. Usually against the law at other businesses.
There were so many other customers waiting I don't know how they even helped them all. The restaurant isn't that large. The parking lot can't handle that many...
Read moreThis review is for the 2 times we ordered here since COVID began!! The first order was delivered to us and it wasn’t even our order. I ordered the family meal and instead we get two sandwiches, called the restaurant and the girl on the phone said yeah I know and didn’t offer any type of compensation for the mix up. Considering I spent over $60 for a meal and got 2 cheaply made sandwiches so lost money there. Now on to the 2nd order, now yes it is a Doordash order but that is NO excuse at all. This had to do with the amount of money I spent for a family meal and got enough food for maybe 2 small children and the price was well over $60.00. The food was plain in taste and the Tri-tip was really dry and over cooked that my husband and I didn’t even touch it, we threw it in the trash. We have eaten here many times before COVID hit and it was great but not after COVID it’s terrible and way overpriced for what you get in portion size!!! It’s really sad that this restaurant has taken such a horrible turn in service and in food taste that it’s not going to last if they don’t get their act together!! Plain and simple!!! BTW: The older lady at the counter was extremely rude and disgusting person to customers that I won’t order from here again!!! RUDE SERVICE AND DISGUSTING FOOD MEANS NO MORE OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY WILL BE SPENT...
