This had quickly become one of our favorite taco spots, and for good reason! The moment you step through the doors, you're enveloped in a vibrant, electric atmosphere. The space is beautifully adorned with twinkling lights and colorful stars that hang from the ceiling, creating a whimsical feel. Kegs are prominently displayed, hinting at the delicious brews to come. After a brief moment of soaking in the ambiance, you make your way to the check-in area, where the friendly staff welcomes you with warm smiles.
Once seated, we eagerly dove into the menu, which was brimming with tantalizing options. The aroma wafting from the kitchen made our mouths water, and after much deliberation, we decided to start with a selection of tacos. When they arrived, they were absolutely divine each bite bursting with flavor! Jimmy and Eduardo, our enthusiastic servers, shared their expertise and suggested a variety of cocktails that complemented our meal perfectly. Their recommendations included not only vibrant cocktails but also the refreshing La Dona beer, which quickly became a crowd favorite.
The cocktails we tried were incredible strong and perfectly crafted. It wasn’t long before we were lost in the lively conversation and laughter that filled the air around us. The atmosphere was so infectious that we found ourselves ordering round after round, reveling in the flavors and delightfully potent drinks. Every sip felt like a mini celebration!
After we finished our tacos, the night was still young, so we decided to continue our adventure at the bar. The bartenders were wizards, and they invited us to sample an impressive selection of tequila and Mexican whiskey. Each tasting was a unique experience, showcasing the rich and varied profiles of the spirits.
The location itself boasted ample parking right in front, making it super convenient for our group. One of my favorite features was the restaurant's garage-like doors that opened up, allowing a refreshing breeze to sweep through the space on warm evenings. It made for a perfect setting to enjoy good food and great company.
As the night progressed, we leaned back in our chairs, fully content, our hearts and bellies brimming with joy. The sounds of laughter and clinking glasses were the perfect soundtrack to a memorable night filled with flavor and fun. This taco spot had truly turned into a hidden gem in the city that we couldn't wait...
Read moreLa Tapatia 5 stars because the food really showed out! Authentic, flavorful Mexican food, definitely some of the best in Minnesota and felt like it was a hidden gem for sure. We came on a Saturday, at about 4/4:30, before the dinner rush, purposefully.
Service: We were warmly greeted after entering their somewhat long hallway. Our server was helpful with the menu when we asked but never smiled. They weren’t busy at this time and I felt like they were attentive.
Food: this is where they shine! We loved everything we ordered. We started with Queso Blanco, Guacamole and freshly made chips. Everything was good, particularly the chips. For our main course we ordered tacos and Burrito. The Tacos we ordered (which were all corn) included the Al Pastor (4/5) street style, Chorizo (5/5) Tejano style, Pescado (fried fish- 4/5), Camarones (grilled shrimp 5/5) Tejano style, Burrito was vegetarian (5/5). We also ordeeed a large rice, which was the best Mexican rice we have ever had. We loved all the salsas and tried each of them. The hot was hot but totally still enjoyable. The Salsa verde and Salsa Aguacate (w/avocado) were are favorites and both milder. The only drink menu we were given has beers on it (which neither of us usually do) but we shared a raspberry beer, it was nice. Unfortunately we were too full to try desserts but they looked delicious and I heard they are. Food portions are not large, so you definitely won’t feel like you’re overeating.
They have gluten-free options, and vegetarian options so you can find something for almost everyone.
Atmosphere: It was warmly decorated with high ceilings. It’s not a large place but I’m sure would accommodate a lot more if it were summer and the patio area was open for sure. It wasn’t loud but then again, we came before a rush. The seating is not the most comfortable, as it’s high tops or diner tables with metal chairs (high top chairs have no backs).
It felt like a family/kid friendly area and lots to look at. You go for the food and you will be pleasantly surprised. I definitely recommend and we plan...
Read more7/3/25 This was the first time I've been here since they moved into the bigger space, and it's loud, but it's just the right size, with an engaging atmosphere! I think this was previously a brewery/sausage place, which was so-so.
The menu is just as great as before; likely expanded slightly. I got a big cabeza (beef cheek: like really tender steak) burrito, and it was perfect in every way, and only $11! The free house chips are obviously made there, and were fresh. Possibly my favorite part about the visit were the green sauce & salsa! Green sauces are my jam to begin with, but wow... the creamy one had just the right spice level (maybe too hot for many accustomed to "MN spicy"), and the tomatillo-based salsa was also refreshing on a warm day.
This place is well worth your time, whether you're a foodie or casual diner!
(Review from ~2020) My wife and I got takeout from here this weekend and thought it was really good!
I got a pork chorizo burrito with everything. The meat was ground really fine, and I didn't notice much, if any fat. When we got home I put it in our air fryer at 350 for five minutes on both sides to get it crispy like a chimichanga -- It was SO good!!
My wife got tacos; Forget what kind, but she said they were good too except she didn't think the red sauce was anything amazing -- Good but eh. She is in love with the elote, though! You get it in a cup which may not be the traditional presentation but better, in my opinion it's less of a mess that way and doesn't get stuck in your teeth as much. They obviously don't use canned corn, as some have mistakenly assumed, because my wife would've eaten two bites and been like nope if that was the case.
Cool to hear they'll likely be moving into a new facility; Not that their current location is bad at all.
Would order Doordash pick-up from them again; Hopefully sooner rather than later. Quality and taste is up there with El Taco Riendo, Chimborazo, Centro, Adelitas, Maya, Jefe,...
