*This is a review on the customer service, not the hot dogs themselves.
Having never seen nor heard of Parker's Hot Dogs, we purchased a Groupon for $21 that included 3 vouchers for $10 each (which amounted to $3 off of an order of $10 or more). Our groupons were expiring on the 24th, so we were running out of time and chose to use two of them on the 20th on two separate checks. We didn't really think anything of it since Groupon usually allows you to purchase an additional groupon as a "gift." I have done two party ordering with friends before when we both want to try out a new restaurant. However, this one had the rule of 1 per day/visit/table (which we saw later). So even though we were two parties, having later read the fine print, I can see how since we were seated at the same table, we were entirely in the wrong.
My issue however, is based on how we were treated. From the second we ordered, the female cashier was very firm with how she was talking and the gentleman making the food appeared the same way. This is despite us being extremely polite and leaving one 20% tip and one 30% tip while ordering. Having heard of the excellent customer service at this establishment, I was very surprised and confused. Especially because we saw and heard them being very nice to other customers.
Later, the gentleman came out an apologized and explained the Groupon issue and how the restaurant was losing money because of Groupon. We apologized as well and felt bad about or faux pas, but even afterwards, there was still no courtesy in how we were treated. We cleaned up after ourselves, threw our trash away, placed the baskets neatly on the counter, said our "please" and "thank-you"s, and while other customers were told, "goodbye," "have a nice day," and not to worry about cleaning up since the employees were going to wipe the tables anyway, we were not even addressed.
Now the math part, I don't assume every groupon customer is this way, but if we have a groupon, we tend to order more than the groupon is worth and tip on the actual amount we order, not just what we paid. Between the tip and the additional items that we ordered, the restaurant did not lose money off of our order. Especially when considering how mathematically it really doesn't matter because it is the same amount of money regardless of when they are used. If we used one today and one tomorrow, it would still be the same total amount, just spread out over two days.
This was our first time visiting Parker's. Having been raised in the Bay Area, we were excited to try something that we could compare to Casper's. The dogs were good, but the customer service definitely left something to be desired. I admit our fault in this, but I do not feel that we deserved the rude and unkind treatment, especially since we paid/tipped more than the value of of the groupon itself. And even if we didn't, was it really worth $3 to lose a potential customer? This entire situation could have been handled a lot...
Read moreParker’s Hot Dogs in Santa Cruz is a quintessential spot for anyone craving classic American comfort food. From the moment you step into this lively, welcoming joint, you’re greeted with the irresistible aroma of freshly grilled hot dogs and savory toppings. The menu offers a variety of options, but the standout for me was definitely their famous chili cheese dog.
The chili cheese dog at Parker’s is a masterpiece of flavor and texture. The hot dog itself is perfectly grilled, sporting a nice smoky char that adds depth to every bite. It's nestled inside a soft, warm bun that holds everything together without falling apart. The generous spoonful of hearty chili, packed with just the right amount of spice and richness, coats the hot dog beautifully. Topped with a generous layer of melted cheddar cheese, it creates a delightful melty contrast that amplifies the overall flavor profile.
What truly sets Parker’s apart is their commitment to quality and classic flavors. The chili has a homemade feel, not overly processed, and pairs wonderfully with the smoky sausage and cheesy topping. Portions are satisfying without feeling overwhelming, making it perfect for both a quick lunch or a hearty snack. The friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere add to the great experience.
Overall, Parker’s Hot Dogs and their chili cheese dog are a must-try for anyone visiting Santa Cruz. It’s a nostalgic, flavorful, and satisfying spot that keeps you coming...
Read moreI did not know this place existed until I went on Groupon. I bought the Groupon and decided to have lunch here.
Its located off Douglas in a strip center on the corner.
When I walked in I was greeted right away...the owner was so kind and helpful.
I heard him talking to an elderly couple how he removed all condiments from tables and bleaches them after each person leaves.
While I was there...he knew a few of the regulars by name.
I looked on yelp and read the reviews before I went and decided to try the fried Chicago dog minus cucumbers. I ordered the fries and drink combo.
It did not take long to be served.
The fries were hot and fresh...just perfect. The hotdog was very good. I never tried one fried before...but it was really good...it comes with mustard...pickles...banana peppers...cucumbers...and salt...relish and tomatoe. This is only 4.69...an additional fries and large drink for 3.39.
If you like these items on your hotdogs I certainly recommend coming here. Everything was fresh and wonderful...
I would like to try the chili dog and the western bacon one...maybe next time.
If your in the mood for a hotdog...and want great customer service and fantastic food...this is the...
