Beer and BBQ, what's not to like?
Well... the only reason I'm recommending it, is because it's reasonably priced in an area that doesn't offer too much in that style of food. So finish the review before making your decision. No brisket was ordered(because I had a brain lapse while ordering.)
We ordered food for lunch at my shop down the road. Not bad, not great. Time from ordering over the phone to having food was around 20 minutes. Which is great... but make sure you're getting your "flavor worth."
-Ribs and brined smoked chicken breast, (also offers a 4 pc chicken) collard greens Mac n cheese *served with "garlic bread"
Pulled pork sandwich with BBQ sauce Mac n cheese
The ribs? Delicious. The smoke is there, the red ring is there. The house BBQ sauce on it is great. Not the "fall off the bone" stuff people like to conflate. This is more of a fatty, juicy, meat, and unctuous bite.
The pulled pork was on point, not dry by any means and full of flavor. Maybe ask for some more sauce, as the "sandwich" is a lil dry to be on the menu as "with BBQ sauce."
The house BBQ sauce is great. It's a classic, sweet n comfy backyard badass. GET EXTRA.
OK. Here's the bite. The rest was pretty mediocre at best.
Brined and smoked chicken breast was dry(it's hard to get a moist chicken breast when you're smoking it as just the breast, EVEN with the brine assuming it's a wet brine fingers crossed for the 4 piece substitution.) It had a nice smoke taste, but the "grainyness" of chewing it was off putting at the end of a bite. I was stoked to find a brined, smoked chicken breast, but this doesn't deliver on a juicy, flavorful thing that a chicken breast can be... don't get me started on the "garlic bread" lol
Mac n cheese. Alright... let's do this. Y'all are missing something... it's salt. The seasoning is there but not much of it comes through. The sauce really needs a boost of salt to open your tongue to the seasoning before combining with the noodles. Maybe some smoked paprika and finishing it in the smoker, or broil a top?
Collard greens. One of my favorite sides that I could make a meal out of. This one didn't hit. If you like greens in straight stock, with a lil meat, you're good here. But the collards and mustards I've had at other places added something that this one either forgot, or didn't add enough. Vinegar. Some sort of acid to balance that bitter green, and fatty stock out. Apple cider vinegar is a go to. Definitely an opposite flavor than a Bad Brad's.
Last thing. Garlic bread? Pulled pork "sandwich"? The bread used in these items is just a long ballpark hotdog bun pretty much. It's a moist bread that doesn't hold against its fillings as a sandwich. And DEFINITELY doesn't hold up to being the base of dry, smoked chicken. Not sure if you can tell by the presentation in the picture, but the chicken is on top of a piece of this. ... still ate it... it tastes like you microwaved bread with butter on it...
GONNA GIVE IT ANOTHER GO THOUGH! I'm hoping I find something I...
Read moreAs a bar it's pretty standard and okay to visit. The bartender was nice and all was well. One downside oddly was the placement of the keno tvs as they are on the opposite walls as the bar in the corners and as we sat and tried to enjoy ourselves there was a man who we thought was staring at us forever.. once we realized he was playing keno.. haha we were like ok whatever. So add a keno over the bar area. Now on to the bbq side, they may have been on downtime for smoking meats because after parking and walking around the place and into the bar not a scent of wood smoke. The menu options are decent and id say fairly priced, however i always go to bbq places to test more than one meat to get a idea of things. Specifically brisket, pulled pork and sausage. Well theres no sausage it was a bummer not a deal breaker as they had wings with a nice selection of sauce or seasoning options 10 total. I got 6 wings 3 sauces, their house bbq, Sesame garlic, and 6 pepper dry rub. Their wings were of a jerky texture and hardly smoky not a total turn off because they still were tender enough to bite clean also Fried to get crispy which was nice.. but sauces, house bbq is a massive molasses sauce overpowering and not a favorite.. the 6 pepper spice was okay, and the sesame garlic was good. And then to order main food they do not offer a platter of bbq such as 1 2 3 or more meat combo plates with sides. You have to order each individual then add on sides. So where i could get a triple meat combo at some places for say 20.00, 3 meats 2 sides and bread.. i would have had to order brisket for 9.99 pulled pork for i think 7.99 then chicken for like 9.99 i beleive. Then 2.99 a side so about 30 total to do 3 meats 2 sides. So i got a western which had pulled pork and brisket and coleslaw on a seeded bun, And a side. I opted for the mac and cheese claiming to be home made with 5 cheeses.. now ive made and had restaurant made fresh mac and cheese and when its made that way its always stringy and you know texturaly its real deal. This was great mac and cheese however a creamy Velveeta type cheese sauce over real curly nice noodles. Now id give a great rating on it if they admited it wasnt home made 5 cheese, seemed deceitful. On to the sammich, the coleslaw was good. The meats were under seasoned by a long shot no smoke ring or smoke flavor and any flavor at that, i couldnt tell flavor wise if i had brisket or pork besides looking at it. So this place is fine to visit and eat but as legit smokehouse id say no. Again good people good place needs improvement as...
Read moreSome of the worst food I've ever had flavor-wise. My son ordered the ribs and the only thing that saved them was extra barbecue sauce. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich number one it looked like it was on a hot dog bun but I do believe it might have been a small brioche hot dog bun but it was so oily that I kept dropping it. They put enough meat on but it was flavorless like there was no seasoning there was no smoke there was nothing so the only thing that saved my sandwich was again putting barbecue sauce on it. My boyfriend got the brisket sandwich and same thing was not impressed did not taste flavorful had to add the barbecue sauce. I feel if you are promoting barbecue it should taste like barbecue without having to slather it and barbecue sauce I should taste seasoning I should taste smoke I should taste something. Granite it is a bar so a lot of people might really like their food cuz they might not be able to taste it or might not care when they're drunk. My boyfriend ate half my sandwich when he was drunk and said it tasted good Butthead just slather and barbecue sauce. I will not go back as I like my meat and food flavored they did give you a lot of me on your sandwich but it just was not flavored. And it took them 40 to 45 minutes for my carryout. They have no designated area to pick up the food at so we were kind of standing in the middle of the bar cuz there was a lot of people at the counter which I didn't like either. Also I was very very very disappointed in the mac and cheese first off it was all runny at the bottom not cheesy I literally felt like a boxed mac and cheese would have been better It was gritty and not even seasoned The mac and cheese alone was $10. To add on the pulled pork was another $5 so it was $15 for a horrible mac and cheese with pulled pork I stirred the pork in but I still again headed to add my own personal seasonings and barbecue sauce to try to save the dish and I couldn't even eat it at that point It was so disgusting. I never had mac and cheese that bad in my entire life like there was water at the bottom like they didn't start properly it was gritty like they didn't start properly even after I started it still tasted like crap I absolutely do not recommend the mac and cheese under any circumstances I would rather take a frozen TV dinner mac and cheese over that at least those are flavorful. I do not recommend and will...
