The outdoor patio is adorable and decorated for the holidays, but we sat inside because it was a colder night. The inside is welcoming, casual and unassuming - jeans or cute outfit appropriate. Our server, Isabelle, was an absolute gem. She was super patient with my GF questions, offered to double check everything for me (and did), informed me that bread is cooked on the same surface as the shrimp I ordered in case I had celiac and didn't bat an eye when I asked if she would ask the chef to cook my shrimp "well done". The shrimp and grits were flavorful, a decent sized portion, had just the right amount of cream (not too heavy like some places), were topped with thinly sliced char grilled onions and bell peppers and instead of having andouille or another type sausage, I think the pork flavor came from small bites of bacon. I had their version of a NOLA hurricane so I can't be 100% sure. It packed a punch and was fruity without tasting like processed sugar. BTW - the shrimp and grits did not have any tomato sauce in them (I like them both ways) and I did enjoy Roux's different take on seasoning them with the char grilled veggies that easily blended into the grits to have with each bite. We went early - maybe 6:00 and while the bar was full, the tables were empty. By the time we left an hour later, the tables were full. I appreciate that Isabelle split our check in half and my receipt came with pre-calculated tipping options and, of course, a space for a "custom tip". I practice brutal honesty so I will include that while our table looked clean and was set with silverware, the top of the table was a little sticky on my side. I didn't bother mentioning it to Isabelle because I hadn't seen my friend in 5 months and was too busy talking. I know if I said something it would have taken care of it right away. I did notice daily drink specials on a chalk board by the bar. Roux seems like the kind of place I could go to on my own and feel comfortable. Thanks for the good meal and excellent...
Read moreIâve been here a few times and for Cajun itâs decent.
I ordered the oyster poâboy with extra oysters, which has an up-charge, which I donât mind, I find that almost all places donât put enough oysters on their sandwich for some reason. In New Orleans they pile them on to where they fall off the plate.
I found the oysters to be a bit over fried and small, glad I ordered extra. đ. They were a bit over salty for me. The rest of the sandwich was flavorful, the bread, which is very important to any Cajun poâboy was good along with the lettuce, tomatoes and spread. Overall a decent sandwich but Iâve had a lot better on canton street.
The steak tacos - classic beef tacos were a bit pricy at $18 for two and only one side. The tacos were delicious but the hush puppy side was dry and had no flavors.
The classic burger was flavorful along with the side of fries.
Tip - Sundays are $.50 raw oysters, they were fresh and delicious.
Service was great. Greeted at the door BU the hostess with a smile and seated immediately with reservations. The waitress was perfect. Never needed anything, covered us perfectly.
Parking, like all of canton street is sparse and $10 if you can find a spot.
Would I go again? Sure, to hang with friends but not for Cajun food. There is a better tasting Cajun restaurant down canton street and have there own parking lot with plenty of spaces...
Read moreCan you give NEGATIVE stars??? First off the staff is just LIES to you about the wait time. Our 1 œ hour wait turned into a 2 œ hour wait. Then we were FINALLY seated next to the bar where all the drunks could run in and out of the restaurant hitting us in the back CONSTANTLY!!!!! Then the wait staff continued with this ABUSE AND BATTERY by pushing through the drunks and hitting us in the back!! The food was HORRIBLE!!! I had what the menu called Shrimp and GritsâŠRUBBERY shrimp over OVERCOOKED grits with COLD GREASY onions and peppers on top. My husband had the shrimp and steak, ONLY 4 SMALL SHRIMP AND 4 SMALL PIECES OF STEAK!!!! Appetizer sized proteins on entrĂ©e sized starch!! Another person ordered the Po Boy WITHOUT rĂ©moulade sauce, when the waiter brought the sandwich, he was asked if there was rĂ©moulade sauce on it, the waiter said NO. Well the sandwich was COVERED with rĂ©moulade. So even the chef and wait staff are CLUELESS about the menu. This was our anniversary celebration, and after all the ABUSE we were put through, NOT EVEN A PIECE OF CAKE was brought to our table. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE. On top of all of this, I was SICK to my STOMACH half the night after eating here!!! Do yourself a favor and go to Popeye chicken for better food, larger sizes and more authentic...
