Over all we enjoy Mac McGee's. The atmosphere reminds me of the Temple Bar bars in Dublin. Can't rate the food. Drinks are normally pretty solid. However this saint Patricks day we showed up early(2p.m.-6p.m.) and the bartenders working the front door bar were not in the greatest moods and you could tell they were over the weekend. Which i dont blame them... between a pub crawl friday and Saint Patricks Day being Sunday this year.
We got charged for car bombs that had house whiskey and house cream liqueur. Is that normal??? I asked the blonde female bartender why she didnt use Jameson and Baileys, she followed with "we always use house liquor for car bombs..." I can swear everytime we've had our one and done car bombs on a random date night. Any of the other bartenders we've met, have used the traditional Jameson and Baileys. I feel like because it was Saint Patricks Day we were being ripped off /over charged. I hope this is addressed and discussed. We will return because we enjoy it being our last drink on date night however we will be paying more attention to how our drinks are being made and our bill. Which if we are being charged 10/12 dollars for a car bomb, id hope to be served Jameson and...
Read moreWe dined on a Saturday (8.7) for late lunch, early dinner. It always starts with the service, our waitress working both the bar and tables with efficiency & friendliness. The atmosphere is what you'd expect in a pub, lots of wood, kinda' dark, but it was comfortable and felt clean, including restrooms. It didn't look too busy but they have an upstairs dining area and the kitchen had our meals out in good time, both tasty and filling. My wife liked her gyro plate with sauteed veggies, I had shepherd's pie, set with a nice presentation, tasting fresh and delicious. The cost was reasonable ($35). Roswell downtown has many quality eateries (Not enough shops!), but if we return, we'll be heading back to Mac McGee's for eats, if limited municipal parking permits (oy) (9.6.21).
UPDATE: In more recent visits (2022-3) it's become custom to prop the entrance-door open, even in January. Bad idea. Besides the obvious chill it creates in winter, it also opens the dining to car exhaust and second-hand smoke drift. It's a busy street. Did I ask Mgmt to close the door? Heck, no, for nothing will ruin an eating experience like a request...
Read moreThis is my pub and these are my people =) If you pay this pub a visit find me and buy me a beer please! Very authentic and relaxed. The staff is great (cut them some slack if they get busy, don't be that guy) and the owners are probably one of the first people you'll see walking in. Lively on the weekends, when there's a good game on, when its cold and rainy outside, when Atlanta has a French Toast Alert (bread, eggs, and milk, right?) and when Roswell has festivals or events. The whiskey menu is out of this world. Voted Best Whiskey Bar in Atlanta in 2015, I believe. The beers on tap are unique and always cold. And the food!? Not only have you found a great pub, but also a restaurant with a chef-driven, seasonal menu. Is it summer? Try one of their salads or the flash-fried sprouts with jalapeños. Is it winter? Have some broccoli-cheddar soup with Guinness bread! Any day of the week you'll want the Chicken 65. A huge bowl of curry fried chicken with dipping sauces. Is it late and you're drunk as hell? Have a $5 sandwich and another beer. My point is, you'll love it. Come...
