Campestre Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Round Lake Beach

After reading the reviews of this place, I was really excited about trying it out. Unfortunately, my experience was not what I had hoped for. Chips were served with 3 salsas. One was decent, one was extremely salty (like a salty tomato sauce), and the green tomatillo salsa was just bland. Also, warning, if you ask for more chips, there is an extra charge. I ordered the chicken enchilada suizas which were described as having a spicy ranchero sauce on them with cheese and sour cream. They did not appear to have ranchero sauce on them, but instead were surrounded in a puddle of bland pink sauce. After trying them, I asked the waitress about it and she told me they don't make them spicy because not everyone likes them that way. My wife ordered a side of beans with her burrito which didnt show up... not a problem except that we had to ask to have removed from the bill. Finally, my daughter was asked how she wanted her tacos (onion and cilantro or lettuce, tomato and cheese). Have lived in Round Lake Beach 17 years and this is my 1st time coming in for a sit down meal (Saturday 5/4, 7pm). The place was 1/2 to 2/3 full. What impressed me the most is the waitresses (only 2) were able to keep people fed in a very timely manner. The establishment is clean and the food was good. Both my spouse and I ordered the carne asada meal. Unfortunately one flank steak was a bit greasy compared to the other one. My spouse has acid reflux, so that's probably why she noticed this. Had an excellent experience, the prices are fair, and "yes" I do plan to dine at this establishment again one day. 7/12/2025 Saturday - Had the same experience as previously stated, but place was maybe 1/4 full. Margaritas were very good. We ordered steak and shrimp fajitas, I son and I both have allergies against peas we asked the waitress Rice had peas in it she said no But when I came to the table there were peas in the rice we were quite upset she did take it back and bring us new plates My son however they gave him the same plate just wipe the rice off and put beans in its place. I don't think they understand allergies can widely kill somebody If not taken seriously. We like beans and rice together on our plates however at this place we would not be able to get it they're beans look like they were mixed with them they were extremely white I had never seen refried beans like that before.
