We moved to Plugerville last week and this was the first restaurant/cafe we visited in the area. Our main reason for visiting IKEA was, of course, to find some shelves that that we can use in our new house which is seriously short of storage places. So we are converting the cupboard under the stairs into a useable storage space. So while we spending several hours walking through the whole of the IKEA showroom we got hungry and we came to try the Swedish meatballs in the IKEA cafe. This is a self serve cafe so our expectations were low, but even then our expectations were not met. The menu choices are straightforward and displayed with pictures above the serving counter, we both ordered meatballs mine with fries and my wife’s with a side of rice and a green salad. There was some disorganization behind the counter but we eventually got what we ordered along with glasses for unbranded soda from a fountain. Nice to see that all utensils, plates and glasses are washed and reused. At checkout the cashier was not available she was refilling the coffee machine with ground coffee so we had to wait a while until she was finished with this task. Then it was difficult to find a clean table, tables have a card on them indicating whether they need cleaning or are clean, unfortunately all the empty tables had cards that said they needed cleaning. So we did the job ourselves at the least messy table and sat down to eat. The food was ok, about what you expect in a cafeteria, but not something I would plan on visiting the next time...

Read moreI am sad to see that the restaurant hours are now only from 11am until 6pm. I used to love to arrive at 9:30am before store was officially open and enjoy their bargain priced breakfast and free (to loyalty members) coffee before shopping. I didn't eat there for dinner as much, but when I worked near to it and got off at 6pm, I occasionally liked to go in for dinner. I wish they'd restore the morning hours and breakfast. I was going to go today....how disappointing.
Other things I miss, the original Apple Cake was layered with apples and one of the best. Later they added more breading to it, it's ok now, but not spectacular- below average compared...
