I am fairly new to the area and coming from a place of a predominantly hispanic community, I looked for some semblance of my culture here. To which I have! There are places in the area that have blown me away with their craft. Places I can call staples in my life now. This is not one of them.
I heard a lot of great things about this place by word of mouth. People raving about the flavors the food carries. The rich authentic atmosphere that it holds. By all accounts, this is a community staple. Which baffles me.
This isn’t a poke of an authentic label. I love quality Tex Mex more than the next guy. However, what I received was short of quality. A Torta smeared with more beans and guac than carne. “Gorditas” that were just two tortillas right over each other with fillings. A tortilla sandwich if you wanna call it that. The unfortunate part of it all: the seasoning. Incredibly underwhelming or non existent. I don’t think the first and last thing I should be tasting is lettuce.
I will note that the space and service I received was fine. Food arrived in a timely manner and our drinks were never empty.
Make what you will of it. Maybe I will try their food again in the future but if this is the how high the bar is set, I’ll pass.
Overall, if you want Authentic Mexican food, this is not the place. Now they don’t make themselves out to be that which is fine but do not let any locals tell you it is.
If you want casual Tex Mex, knock yourself out. Maybe I am missing something out there that everyone around me is getting. It’s probably something...
Read moreYesterday 03/21/25 came in the morning after my Dentist appointment down the street n bought some pan dulce , like i always do when i come into town for those dentists appointments. Then left with a friend to eat breakfast n came back to wait for my uber ride back home. But before going home i walked backed to juarez bakery to order me some lunch n supper. So, I order 3 tacos alacart and 3 cheese enchiladas alacart. Asked for original red sauce non spicy. Got home to eat my tacos n only ate half the crispy taco cause it was spicy n burned my tongue n lips. Same with the red non spicy on the enchiladas. Called manager Nayeli today n said could only refund for enchiladas. Talked to owner AJ, and said wouldn't refund anything of my $20.32. I told him the taco meat was spicy, don't know if they put to much black pepper which is spicy for me or someone used a spoon that they use to scoop spicy sauce with. As for what spicy red sauce they used I don't know. I argued that a good manager or onwner would refund the customer back their money or offer to put their name on a list to come back later n get something else if they want their business to come in. I've worked in food services n other businesses n was always taught that you don't argue with the customer n that the customer is always Right. Now, I love this bakery n have always come to this place with my mom when she was alive along with getting RR donuts. But now they are on my list of shitty places I will...
Read moreI wanted to like this place a lot, had been recommended it by workmates, but there was much to be desired. The atmosphere was low key and accommodating for the situation, the attached bakery may in fact be wonderful, not reviewing that here at all, just the restaurant portion. The tamales were very small and not a good value, mild being maybe a tad too spicy (not for me, but for what others would expect for mild. Carne guisada was nothing to write about. Al Pastor tacos were on task, but lacked a bit of flavor and pineapple, but otherwise good for a usually more rare taco. The queso was good and even better with beef and pick added, would get again. The rice and beans were fine. Flour tortillas were passable but nothing great or freshly made tasting. Corn tortillas were fine. I tried as many things as I could to sample in one go al la carte. The Mexican Street enchiladas were nothing I would get again, and I grew up on the Mexican border in Texas and have been to Mexico many times, the flavor was bland even though the cooking looking spot on. I might visit again, but lower my expectations to chicken flautas or...
