Positives: The price is fair for the sheer amount of bodybuilding and strength-training equipment available at the gym. The gym is open at all times and is easy to get in and out of with plenty of parking in the surrounding lot. You're able to use the martial arts training mats at any point if there aren't any classes going on. It's mostly a pretty chill vibe, but the 'vibe' can also be a negative (see below).
Negatives: There is not much of a focus on cardio equipment at all - it's pretty sparse on that end. If you're looking for a gym with lots of cardio machines, this isn't it (whether that's necessary is up to you). Every 2 months or so, the gym will be completely closed for 3 days to host some kind of fighting promotion. That's 18 days a year where you're completely unable to come and workout (they're always on the weekends), or 5% of the year. Do you get a 5% discount to compensate, since you're still paying for that period? No. You're told you can instead work out at a 'sister gym' somewhere else in town, but that's extremely inconvenient. I and other regular gym-goers should not have to be 'punished' for a fighting event being held at the gym. These promotions should be held elsewhere and not interfere with regular members' experiences. The way the gym goes about this feels amateur and unprofessional. The gym caters too hard to the martial arts crowd here, allowing them to skirt past typical gym rules and general courtesy. It's not uncommon that I'm working out and a member of the martial arts squad will connect to one of the gym's massive bluetooth speakers which are left near the martial arts mats, and absolutely blare obscene music (doesn't matter what the music is, really) at the loudest possible volume, drowning out the ambient gym music and everything else - I can't even hear my own in-ear headphones due to how loud it is. What does the gym do when you complain about it? Nothing. They're scared to do something because it's a member of the martial arts crowd. If this was a one-time occurrence, it would be easy to brush aside. However, this has happened at least 5 times in the last couple of months. It's obnoxious.
Overall, I'm pleased enough to keep coming back, but they absolutely need to stop closing the gym for fight promotions, and also need to take general member courtesy and wellbeing a bit more seriously. A massive bluetooth partybox speaker should not be left in plain sight for anyone to connect to (you'd think people would be considerate enough to not connect to it and completely disregard everyone else's sanity, but alas, people...
Read moreThis would have been 5 stars for everything a gym should be. Great equipment, great people, decent value for the cost of the membership, and not too crowded. A lot of the equipment here is Panatta branded stuff, so they are really high quality machines. People were nice, plenty of friendly people and faces.
Unfortunately, whoever they have partnered with that manages the whole memberships/contracts section of the business completely tarnished the few months I had been there.
When a business says, "Sorry, because you cancelled your membership 12 days before your next renewal cycle instead of 14, we are going to have to charge you another FULL MONTH of membership (which isn't cheap by the way). Not to mention I hadn't even been using the last couple weeks of my current month of membership because I had moved. But that also doesn't matter I guess. On top of that they also charge you $20 dollars for canceling online instead of in-person. So just to cancel your membership, you are looking at 80 dollars, even if you cancel before the next month renews. And I specifically stated I was moving addresses, so I would no longer be there. Then they hit you with the, "But it was in the contract!" which just makes my blood boil with how gym businesses get away with that type of behavior.
I sent out an email similar to what I said above, and they told me they did me a favor by not "renewing next month" but instead, it will go out to collections and ruin my credit instead. So sure, if you do want to go to this gym, just make sure you ask them to give you a special provision that you will not agree to the garbage terms they provide you.
Hopefully they get rid of whoever they partnered with 3rd party wise so it can continue being a good gym without their help, because I can promise you they are definitely not helping.
UPDATE I found out that now I currently "owe" over 200 dollars. This is because when you cancel your gym membership, they count that as "requesting" to cancel your membership. They will not stop charging you for your membership UNTIL you pay their extortion fees and any remaining balance. So you will continue to pay months after cancelling. Some really great business...
Read moreToday, i walked through the front doors of Iron Forge Gym, and i can tell you this much already; my life will never be the same again. Immediately, i was greeted by front desk worker Ashley who did not throw anything at me but she did make me give her ten dollars for “entry fee.” There were several huge, brolic and handsome men surrounding the front desk, the apparent ringleader had a name tag reading Mizkif. He stepped forward and placed his sculpted hand on my shoulder. His soft but husky voice sent shivers through every inch of my skin, “let me show you around.. you’ll see things you’d never even dream of…” Like a gentleman he led me by the hand to the MMA area, outfitted with all-new equipment, floor mats like clouds, and a roof higher than i could see. We would have wrestled with each other, but a class was in session. The fighters were lined up like it was boot camp. the trainer guy was fiercely beautiful, like a tiger. Every strike was followed by a raw, sexy scream. We walked across the weight training floor, weaving in between the brand new, well maintained, sleek workout machines, and all the while Mizkif never let go of my hand. Finally he led me to his secret streaming room, closed and locked the door, and sat me down in his very own reclining gamer chair. He even popped out the footrest and scooped my legs up onto it. Ever so gently he let the back of the chair down until i was nearly parallel with the floor. “What are you-“ i couldn’t even finish my weak protest before Mizkif threw his gigantic leg over the chair, straddling me and thoroughly ending any hopes of escape i may have entertained. I took one last breath before being enveloped in his powerful iron-like glutes. There was nothing i could do. Mizkif started the stream. He held me there for hours, farting all over my face every 15 to 20 minutes as he slowly smothered me to death. The stream lasted long into the afternoon, after which i was thrown roughly into the cage where members with overdue balances are kept. i don’t even know what i did. but i do know one thing: i’ll be...
