After a previously disappointing experience, I revisited the restaurant, this time sampling the Chinese dishes. I'm happy to report that it was a completely different and overall very positive experience. The noodle dishes were ok, but the true highlight was the porridge. Unfortunately, the milk tea remains disappointing and should not be labeled as Hong Kong Milk Tea. Authentic Hong Kong milk tea uses Sri Lankan tea, and it is not boiled in a kettle, which prevents it from developing a bitter taste. Overall, I recommend coming for the porridge, ordering the lemon tea instead, and avoiding the Western dishes.
I opted for the baked Bolognese spaghetti with cheese paired with a serving of baked pork chop over spaghetti. While the Bolognese spaghetti met my expectations, the baked pork chop fell short. Despite its mediocre taste, it was drowned in sauce, almost resembling a soup, and even spilled over the to-go bag. The Hong Kong style milk tea didn't fare any better; its intense bitterness hinted at overboiled and excessively steeped black tea. Both the hot and iced versions were down right undrinkable, very disappointing. Adding insult to injury, the prices were relatively high, especially considering that adding a cold drink pushed the total to well over $17 per item. Even though it was a soft opening, the traffic was slow. The quality of food, which reflects their preparation methods, was not up to par. Perhaps I'll explore their Chinese dishes on my next visit, hoping for a more...

The self service to avoid tipping was great! And we still had excellent service from the kitchen staff despite them not getting tips. The lady who served us our food was so welcoming and kind.
Plenty of parking in the lot (though it could get crowded).
Plenty of seating inside.
We ordered the milk tea as our free hot drink and it was so good!
We also ordered the fried chicken (perfectly crispy and good), the thousand year old congee (very tasty and goes well with the fried bread/yotel), and shrimp wonton (the egg noodles worked well and the shrimp was good).
I love that you can pick your side dishes (the salted peanuts were so good and the fried shallots) yourself at the back counter.
Overall, it was delicious food and a...
Read moreI was on a business trip to Los Angeles and stumbled upon Chan Kee, which had congee on the menu, so I decided to give it a shot. It turned out to be really tasty and authentic Hong Kong style. I got the Hong Kong-style milk tea and iced lemon tea, and both were spot on. We also tried their fried chicken wings, and they were amazing – super crispy skin and juicy meat. It was an accidental but awesome find. Highly recommend checking it out! I looked it up and found out that they actually have three branches in Los Angeles. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Hong...
